Lunatique 4/7/12 . chapter 1Ha! That was a rollicking fun read. Great job doing a romance while having a solid plot and not getting into fluff territory. I loved the sexual tension between Ty Lee and Sokka and their chemistry as comrades, which dynamics reflected each other in highly satisfactory ways. You do a male point of view exceedingly well, and your description of teenage male desire in particular felt natural and was entertaining. (Gosh, it got *me* hot n' bothered over Ty Lee's... endowments.)
Your trademark sense of humor is very much present, from Wang Fire's (or should I say WANG FIRE'S) bluster to witty turns of phrase like "mandatory vantage point." The flirtatiousness between the two lead characters were appropriately humorous for two characters who are each so funny in their different ways. The action was excellently written, too, and flowed very well with no vague points in it. Also, that was a great point about Ty Lee having a crueler side. It's something that often gets overlooked in her characterization and is definitely one of the qualities that earned her a place at Azula's side.
The only two parts I wasn't sure about was the big block of exposition at the beginning and the fact that Ty Lee's momentary fear of Sokka seemed to remain an open loop without explanation. (Or if you did explain, I missed it. I do that sometimes - or a lot.) But those are quibbles in an otherwise excellent romance/action story. Go Badass Normals! |
 Methe 1/17/12 . chapter 1Nice Ty Lokka!
Surprised how much characterization and development you managed to get with the number of words you used. Thanks for the Fic! |
louder.now 12/28/11 . chapter 1First off: amazing job! This is probably the best Ty lokka fic I've read, and believe me, I've read _a lot_ of Ty lokka fics. Haha :) but seriously. The writing is good, the plot isn't horribly implausible, the heroes are in character, just... Beautiful.
As an aspiring Ty lokka writer myself (well... I have one chapter up haha) I appreciate how humor is important in the story - after all, sokka is, without a doubt, the funniest character on the show - and you do a great job with that! Another part I especially like is Ty lee's doubts about relationships. If you'll permit me to make an overly extravagant comparison, like an ocean, she is shallow on the surface but is actually quite deep when you look furl rather into it. On top she might be flirtatious and outgoing, but beneath that are insecurities and issues.
Anyway. Let's just say I enjoyed your fic. Very much. :) |
Chocolatpen 8/28/11 . chapter 1Hahahhahahaha this was so good and funny! I love your writing! |
Buddy Williams 7/22/11 . chapter 1In my opinion, the hallmark of a good writer, and a good fanfiction, is taking some small part of the show and expanding it into something wonderful and hilariously awesome. Thank you for making Wang Fire my new hero. |
Scarletty 7/13/11 . chapter 1Fantastic. Just absolutely... fantastic. This story was so funny, sweet, and even serious; it was a perfect SokkaxTy Lee fanfiction and of a caliber I wish I saw more of. |
susiipie 1/17/11 . chapter 1Wow, this has been one of the most well written fanfics on Sokka and Ty Lee I've read. You did a wonderful job in making something short filled with a bit of everything and I thought you kept the characters very real to the show. Great job! |
Kimberly T 1/2/11 . chapter 1I'm not ordinarily a fan of Sokka/Ty Lee, but I really like this one! Very well done! |
SwampFoxTheThird 12/30/10 . chapter 1Wow, Loopy. This is a change of pace for you.
You made it almost the whole story with no Mai. XD
Seriously, though, this is great. The space-whales had me in tears. There needs to be fanart for that. Gosh. :D |
Mitspeiler 12/29/10 . chapter 1This is beautiful. You sir are a god. |
Boyarina 12/21/10 . chapter 1 I had to review. I love sokka and Ty lee together! |
CaptureGod-Otamegane 12/21/10 . chapter 1Loved this story and they way ty lee and sokka just kind of skirted around each other was funny. Why aren't their more stories for WANG FIRE, he's just so firey and epic. If you can get the O.K. to write "The Adventures of Pvt. Wang Fire" from Avatar Biliography that would be awesome. |
Maran Zelde 12/21/10 . chapter 1For what it's worth, this is one of the best Ty Lokka fanfics I've read (as you know there are sadly not many of them). It has the perfect blend of action and romance, and shows the best qualities of both Sokka and Ty Lee. It's true that Ty Lee is under-appreciated by the other characters and fans alike. If she were a character in a mediocre show, she'd stand out as a fan favorite. But since she is in a well-written show, she has to compete with the likes of Toph, Azula, Zuko, Sokka, et al., and unfortunately she's overshadowed. I must admit that she isn't even one of my favorites, although I do like her a lot.
I'm confused about one thing: was there ever a "real" Col. Fire? Or did Sokka somehow earn a reputation for the fictional Col. Fire while in disguise? In the series, he only wore it to reprimand "Kuzon," and watch The Runaway cheat at gambling. It makes me wonder if there is a lost tale of Wang Fire visiting a tavern and weaving a yarn about his military prowess. |
LilyAyl 12/20/10 . chapter 1Sokka/anyone fire nation is always fun. This is very cute and I like Ty Lee's hesitancy. |
 Afriel 12/20/10 . chapter 11) Wow, long.
2)Uh, spotted a typo. "He still hadn't managed to develop an informant in the Fire Nation capital, thanks to Fire Lord Zuko's rather effectIVE counter-espionage tactics"
3) I especially appreciate Sokka's blustery dialogue as Wang Fire. (Fire? Seriously, what a way to show off his patriotism.) It's unusual
4) I don't know which started which, the Ty Lee-Sokka pairing or the plot, but I really liked the rebel plot that was sufficiently uncomplicated to finish in one chapt, but with a twist to make it satisfying.
5) Yay, one of the longest reviews I've wrote in a while. Well, to compliment one of the longest fics you've written. |
