What a great start...

I liked this story, but I really hope that the retirement home is a positive, home-like environment that's staffed with very caring people. I've been a nurse at a nursing home for 15 years and I dearly love what I do and of course, I love my residents and their families. As do the vast, vast majority of those with whom I work-or they quickly don't work there! I like the 'blah kind of day...'. Having grown up in the Valley, it's always a blah day in the Valley-especially with the fog and rain and general condition of the Valley! Can't wait to read more!

Hey, I'm in education, they cover the Revolutionary War in the fifth grade, they cover WWII in High School. But it fits your story, so really it's not important. Can't wait to see where you go with it.
