broomclosetkink 3/16/12 . chapter 1You only have five reviews for this fic? Insanity!
I lost my breath reading this. You made it real, the horror and fear, the smell of blood and death. Call me a Weepy Wilma (I am), but I started sniffling not half way through and my brother-in-law looking at me going, "What the heck is *wrong* with you?"
So bravo, hon, you have achieved the goal of many authors (a goal few every manage); you made the emotions real and personal.
I can't even pick out a few lines to fangirl hysterically over. The whole thing. The whoooolllleee thing!
Okay, well, I lied. The last line - "And then everything is clear, and he knows exactly who Enishi is after." I LOVE that you didn't add anymore. It's like the horror Kenshin feels at this realization is so blinding and deep that he can't even touch it. Whuuu - love!
Well. Now I'm going back to the manga and rereading some more because of this. Sadly my Kenshin manga were lost in a house fire (Woe! Agony! Despair!), so I'm reading online. *Sigh* It's not quite the same as smelling the pages and getting ink on my fingers, but it'll do for now. ;)
I need me some Jinchuu, baby. |
caseyedith 2/23/12 . chapter 1This is also beautifully written. I love that you wrote about Kenshin's point of view as he was telling his story. I was engrossed, it was very interesting. And the way you captured his psyche was superb. The continuum was driving, and well-paced. I also especially liked your analogies of air that screamed, bled, and died, and then alluded to it when you mentioned air so thick you could cut it. Great callback! It struck a chord. |
stingrae90 4/18/11 . chapter 1I love the imagery here, and the way you started out by having Kenshin wondering why he tells them in so much detail of his time as the hitokiri. That's a very good point I haven't thought of and haven't seen before in other fics. |
skenshingumi 2/9/11 . chapter 1Beautifully written. You capture the anguish yet determination as Kenshin exposes himself to his friends. Of course he would tremble as he knows that they would not connect him with the brutality that he lived through and inflicted on others until it became mundane. I loved that line that I think shows his own growth best "...and Kenshin had learned that the important word there was the "if"..." |
Bramblestar of ThunderClan 1/7/11 . chapter 1I think it's awesome how fans of this incredible anime are still writing fanfiction, even after all this time.
Very very good! I enjoyed it very much, it was touching in places, and sad in others. And not a lot of errors, either. That is pleasing. :)
I hope to have my own Rurouni Kenshin fanfic soon. _ (if you're interested :P) |
AlterEgoSadist 1/4/11 . chapter 1Ah, this was wonderful. Breathtakingly, hauntingly awe-inspiring. Mind-blowing, even.
I love the way this story was formatted, from the way it was told to the vivid detail. It isn't long and drawn out like most retellings of Kenshin's deeds during the Bakumatsu. All of the emotions are delivered in short and quick snapshots, each painted in blinding descriptions. That, I believe, was what Watsuki was trying to accomplish writing the Rememberance Arc: To present the basic facts of each incident, while leaving room for interpretation even at the very end, with Tomoe's death. The fact that both this and the segment is written in Kenshin's perspective makes it all the more satisfying. Lovely, lovely tale, and quite intriguing to read. |
