Reviews for: Can You Believe It?
Dine89 1/9/11 . chapter 1
This is such a lovely and beautiful oneshot, I love it! It’s nice to see that both families spend so much time together. This way the kids can play with each other and Danny and Don and Jess and Lindsay can have a little talk every now and then. And you know how much I love some girl talk, it’s just so much fun to see Lindsay and Jess talking about their husbands and kids.

What’s better than sitting with your best friend outside talking? Nothing! It’s nice to see that Jess and Lindsay have a quiet moment for themselves to have a nice conversation, while Danny and Don entertain their children. It’s the perfect time to review the last couple of years. “Can you believe it?” Lindsay asked after a while. “Can I believe what… “This.” -“I still can't believe it. It feels so...odd.” -“I'd be happy if you could be a bit more explicit.” Lindsay chuckled. “Fine. I'm just amazed by what we have now. I mean our families, our houses. Remember, there was a time when you and I sat either at my or your apartment, with a bottle of wine and one of those sappy movies, wondering if anyone would ever marry us.”

I think it’s not easy to admit your feelings to someone, even though you know he’s the right one for you. You can’t be sure if the other one returns you feelings. That’s what happened between Jess and Don. I think they were simply to scared and insecure to talk about their feelings. Plus Don used to date some girl back then; of course Jess didn’t open up about her feelings for him. “Do you remember how difficult you found it to admit your feelings to Don? How you kept on believing he only saw you as a colleague and friend? Or, even worse, something like a younger sister? There were so many times when you told me that you wondered if you shouldn't just give up on it. Especially when he got together with Devon.” - “Yeah, he came to me and told me he was about to have a date. … Is it bad that I was glad when it didn't work out?” … “Sure, and that's the reason why you kept on going out after that?” … “It was about damn time. I was seriously about to knock your heads together and lock you in a room with each other.” - “As if you and Danny have been any better back then. I really wanted to smack you. … I can't tell you how happy I was when you told me that you might be interested in him.”

Danny and Lindsay danced so long around each other, it drove me nuts. Everybody could see that they’ve fallen for each other, but both of them were too stubborn to admit it. And right when Lindsay and Danny were ready to give their relationship a try, Lindsay past came back and put everything else on hold. Today Lindsay knows she should’ve told Danny immediately about the shooting, but back then it was too hard for her. “I just wish I had let him in a little earlier,” … “I shouldn't have pushed him away.”-“But I think it was good for him,” … “He had to fight for you. That was when he realized how important you really are to him.”-“Yeah, and then, when we were together finally, we didn't do it right either.” … “I don't get how this relationship could mess up like that. It was so hard for us to get together. And then? We just had fun, but it didn't really feel...serious to me, you know? We weren't really open to each other. We were together, we were in love, but neither of us was able to find the right words. We should have talked more.”

That doesn’t matter anymore. Lindsay had a difficult time back then; she shouldn’t feel bad or guilty for not talking to Danny about it. He didn’t know anything about her past and she didn’t know how he would react, of course she was hesitant about telling him about it. Plus I guess Lindsay was trying to push this topic aside as long as possible, she couldn’t think or talk about it. And after all Danny and Lindsay got together, so it doesn’t matter what Lindsay could’ve done better. They have learned to talk about their feelings and trust each other, they’re happy, have a wonderful family and amazing friends; everything is perfect. “You're a wise woman, Jess.” …“But you're right. It was good for us. After all things are working so much better now… “It also showed me something else. I saw that I have a best friend who I can always count on.” - “It's like having a sister,” … “I mean, both of us grew up with a couple of older brothers. We really needed a best friend. I'm so happy we went through everything together. Like the whole 'when will I find the right man and what do I do when things don't work well' phases.” -“But also later. I still can't get over how much I enjoyed it when you and I were pregnant at the same time with our second children. There's nothing better but exchanging stories about what a pregnancy does to your body. And to have another couple with you during the courses.”

Now that’s an image I like to keep. Lindsay and Jess completely relaxed, talking to each other during the courses and Danny and Don completely helpless don’t know what to do. I’m so glad Jess and Lindsay get along so well and share so important, intense and wonderful moments. They are really like sister, that’s so super awesome. Wait, let me get that straight. Danny and Lindsay have a pool in their backyard? That’s pretty cool. No wonder Jess and Lindsay enjoy sitting on the bench, watching their husbands with their kids so much. I bet Danny and Don look extremely hot dressed only in their bathing trunks.

I love that you wrote a little scene only for Jess and Don. I love you fics or oneshots were we get to see them as well. They are such an awesome couple as well. I still think it’s a shame that the producers decided to let Jess die on the show, I would have loved to see more of her and Don. Anyway, it’s wonderful to see that the families enjoy their days together so much. I mean a day at the pool or in the park with you family is always nice, but to spend those days with your best friends is even better and a lot more fun as well. This way Don and Danny can play with the kids and Jess and Lindsay have even more time to talk. And even if Don doesn’t like it, they always talk about their men. “That was an awesome day, huh?” - “I'm already looking forward to tomorrow. A day at the park? Sounds good to me.”-“Yep, but this time it's not just the guys entertaining the kids and the girls having a nice chat.”…“I wonder anyway what you have to talk about all the time. I hope you don't gossip about us.” She chuckled. “Of course we do. We do nothing else.” -“No seriously, we just talked about how happy we are. And we realized that we never expected to have such a big family.”-“Is that what you wanted?”

Of course it is! He sees every day how happy she is; she has a wonderful husband and adorable children. That’s everything she always wanted. But I agree with Don, after such an exhausting day, entertaining his kids, he really deserves some alone time with his wife. It’s great to see that, even after being married for some years already, they are still so much in love. I bet even though Danny and Lindsay love their children more than anything else, they are both happy and relieved when they are finally in bed. I mean two kids can be pretty exhausting and I guess it’s always nice for a married couple to have some time for themselves as well; time where they can cuddle or have a nice conversation. And thankfully both of them don’t have to work the next day and stay up a little bit longer and really enjoy their time together. “I'm glad tomorrow neither of us has to work either,” - “Or imagine the kids had to go to school tomorrow. They would fall asleep on their desks.” - “I bet they would.”- “But then again tomorrow might not be different. Remember, we promised the Flacks that we'd spend the day at the park with them. A visit at the zoo included.”

You know what that means, right? Now you have to do a second part where they visit the zoo and this time, maybe we get to see a little bit more of their children! That would be so awesome. Anyway, you can see how much Danny loves to be a husband and father; he can’t even image his life without Lindsay and his kids. I really like that. He has grown up so much over all those years; it’s nice to see how much he changed since he’s together with Lindsay. And the same goes for Don. In the past they loved to party and go out as often as possible. They never thought that one day they would be married and have children. But everything has changed when Lindsay and Jess stepped into their lives. “Can you believe it?”…“What?”-“I just can't get over how great things are now,” … “I mean, look at me and Don… There was a time when we spent our nights at bars with playing pool and...well, talking to other women.” - “Then look at Jess and me. There was a time when we liked to go out or visit the opera. Now we spent hours with cooking a big three courses menu, and got excited because you guys and the kids loved it so much.”-“We all changed a lot,” he said. “But that's good, isn't it?” - “Of course it is. I like us a lot better the way we are.” He paused. “It just feels good, you know? We can be so happy. We have a great marriage. We worked really hard for it. And we know we still have our friends for certain topics.”-“Like pregnancy symptoms,”

I would love to see Danny’s face when Lindsay tells him all about her pregnancy symptoms. Don’t get me wrong, Danny wants to be a part of it, but I don’t think Danny wants to hear all of it in great detail. Thankfully that’s what Jess is for; she and Lindsay understand what the other one is going through and can support each other in a different way than Danny and Don can. It’s so much fun to see those two families together, so I really love the idea of going on a vacation together. :D “You know what we should try to do next… maybe we could all go on vacation together next time….”-“That's a fantastic idea”…”We should suggest it to them tomorrow.”

YAY! Please tell me you’ll keep that idea in mind! Like I said sweetie, an absolutely wonderful onesh

The way you write the Jess/Lindsay frienship is very special. The show should take a cue from your writing and try to build more female relationships on the show. Outside of the D/L relationship, they really only concentrate on the male friendships/relationships on NY.

Super story! :D

You weren't kidding when it said family and friendship! This demonstrates how both the couples have grown up together and decided to share that life with their kids. So cool! I have to admit I'm sad that we won't see this coming from Jess's POV, the writers missed out on doing so much with this.

But I LOVE these lines

"Lindsay chuckled. "You're a wise woman, Jess." Her smile softened. "But you're right. It was good for us. After all things are working so much better now." She paused. "It also showed me something else. I saw that I have a best friend who I can always count on."

Lindsay's smile widened as she saw how Jess's cheeks reddened a bit as well. Indeed they had been there for each other all the time. They had listened to each other's problems, had offered support and advice and made sure that the other one always had someone who was there when she needed a friend."

They are friends, and not only that but like Jess said, sisters. :) And you know how much I love seeing the women watching their men, I bet they had fun with the kids teaching them how to swim. Can anyone say cannonball? XD I know, too young. But the ending with Don/Jess and Danny/Lindsay talking about how life is good and how they have gotten so much more than they dreamed of was freaking fantastic!
