This is a wonderful, searching, penetrating study of a breakup that should never have happened - both because of the pain it caused to both Alex and Gene and because, when they come back together later, their reunion can only be achieved at the cost of the happiness of two other people - Donna, whom we know loved Gene more than she ever dared to let on, and quiet, dull, decent Samuel, whom we know will be deeply hurt by Alex's betrayal. Yet we also know that what happens is right, that Gene and Alex must be together. And they know it too.

Oh. My. God. I must say that this has to be one of my favourite Galex fics of all time. You just poured every single ounce of emotion possible into this story and it was just so... epic? I can't even think of a word good enough! It was totally believable and so, so original. This is you at your best, honestly, you writing is just so perfect and flawless. I'm in awe. :D

By the way, you actually reduced me to tears throughout. And by God, the dialogue after they kissed...! Heartbreaking stuff.

This was fantastic! Gosh, I adored it. I loved how it was just purely about Alex and Gene, it was quite refreshing for the focus to be on solely them and not having an interweaving crime plot thrown in the mix (I am totally guilty of using a crime story to throw them together haha!) I love how it is set in 1986, it's almost as if it is a new start for them, which I thought was lovely. At first I sort of questioned Alex's motives (which is a good thing!) and when I saw that she was DCI Woodsen...oh, my heart splintered! And I have to say one of the most beautiful lines was this: 'I couldn't get away from the fact that...that I was in love with someone else.' It was just perfect. You wrote everything so tenderly and beautifully, I can't believe I haven't read your stuff before! Sorry about the long review, but there were so many things I felt I needed to say. Right, I'm going to read everything else you have ever written because this is simply wonderful.x

Wow! You had me totally, completely hooked throughout this story...I had no idea what was going to happen and you had me reading it ridiculously slowly so I could savour every word. I even refused to glance down the page in case I saw something that could ruin the ending! You struck the perfect balance - the angst had me on the edge of my seat wondering whether they would get a happy ending, and the tension was perfect. Gorgeous!

Loved this only problem was I thought it could do with another chapter or two? More galex pretty please. Thanks for writing and sharing.

I am so glad you didn't give up on the story. It was a great idea to bring them back together after 3 years without any traces of the Railway Arms. No crime plot. Just 7000 words of Gene and Alex. Brilliant!
