excessivelyperky 8/6/12 . chapter 1Dobby was living many years with Malfoys. Dobby was knowing kink. -I just bet he does. And two witches in bed together doesn't even come *close*. I adore how he was able to sit on Flitwick's furniture PROPERLY (being a tad height-challenged myself, I know this one). And I love how Headmaster Potions Master had a couple of presents after all. |
Ember Nickel 7/28/12 . chapter 1D'aw. Loved the descriptions of Filch's height, and of course Hermione would want to teach Dobby to read. Nice work. |
FoxyBlues 10/29/11 . chapter 1lovely story. just...awwwww |
TivalovercalledAbby.1997 7/27/11 . chapter 1Awwwwwww |
KrazyKimmy 6/28/11 . chapter 1Naaaw! I love this! Not only the storyline- but the way it's elf-speech without being wholly 1st person- are you sure your not an elf? ;D Very well done, I really do love your work! |
icansoar 5/23/11 . chapter 1This was incredibly cute - you captured the house-elves' way of speaking perfectly - and it's rather bittersweet once you think of all the things Dobby wants to do in the future and know that he'll be dead in a few months. I really liked the fact that Minerva still gave Severus a gift - and Dobby did as well (I'd really like to see the look on Snape's face when he sees one of Hermione's knobbly hats). |

Lily 2/3/11 . chapter 1 How very, very sweet- beautiful story :) Though I have to admit, Id love to know what Minerva gave to Severus... |
the real snape 1/28/11 . chapter 1/when an elf was two feet tall and lived in a world designed for people nearly three times his size, he rarely had a reason to look down./ I love how you give us Dobby's perspective (in the most litteral of meanings) straight from the start. And there's a complete lack of self-pity here that is very Dobby, and very endearing. /twists of silver and orbs of gold / Excellent choice of words *grin*. /Their light came from inside them/ someone has done a proper job of stringing the lights in then - not just round the outside of each tree. /That's how he knew he would see her again. And would see dear, dear Harry Potter, sir. Because Hermione Granger had promised him./ And now it's official: it's not just snow outside, christmas trees and holiday spirit that causes this line to hit me like a ton of bricks. It makes me swallow on a dreary day in January as well. /Yet Headmaster Potions Master had harmed no elf that Dobby knew of/ A lovely encomium. And Snape's secret help with the butterbeer-hangovers ... Of course he would. /And to reach his feet all the way to the floor./ Great line. And I love Poor Seer Sybill and her charmed mirror. It's takcy all right, but I hope it makes her very happy. She needs something other than cooking sherry, every now and then. /Now there were being two./ Your Dobby is such a great little chap. And I love the voice you've given to Grimpen. He may not be a free elf technically, but he's definitely no downtrodden slave, either. /"Is Dobby seeing any other elves nearby?" / Just great. I'm glad Grimpen has such a lovely evening, too - showing off the castle and its secrets to someone who is as appreciative as Dobby. |
Swallow B 1/19/11 . chapter 1What an incredibly touching story. You did a great job getting inside of Dobby, his speech, his understanding and the way it feels physically to be a tiny elf with big ears that droop when he is unhappy. The note about the fact that house-elves should be taught to read and that Dobby can't count very far gave me flashbacks of 'Roots' and I thought, indeed, elves are presented as the ideal slave was expected to be. Somehow you just made this more visible: no, the war isn't the only problem in the best of worlds. I also admire your attention for detail. Among others, no, Pomona is never seen at the Christmas feast. And the blotting parchment. That was never mentioned in the books - I think - but they must have had blotting parchment. And yes, what was Minerva's present to the Headmaster? That's another story, I hope. |
The Winterwitch 1/16/11 . chapter 1I just need to say it all over again how much I love this story on so many levels! You know about my love for house-elves, and it was such a delight to have them getting such a wonderful voice here, with this just perfect OEC (original elf character). And the little bits about Snape, not to speak of Minerva, you managed to put in as well... *happy sigh* |
aptasi 1/16/11 . chapter 1Love it! You've got Dobby's combination of innocence loyalty and independence so well. |
moira of the mountain 1/16/11 . chapter 1How do you manage to do this, you wonderful lady? You make ma laugh right out loud and mist up with tears - all in the same story. Sucn a gentle story. I love that Filius stood firm about Christmas being observed - and his diminutive furniture. I love that Min is with her beloved on this night -I wonder what she gifted to Severus in such a dark and dreadful time - I weep for the too thin man alone in a bed too large for him, with covers barely mussed - and I thank Dobby fot the kindness of TWO presents. And the sweetness that Dobby has his own beloved. You've given the elves form and shape and reason. A treasure of a tale - well done indeed. |
