I think what I appreciated most was the plotting, which was good and complex. And angsty. (Poor Rey). I think one of the things I really loved was that this story not only projected where Rey may have ended up, but managed to project him, realistically and not easily, back out of it.

Also - thanks for the translations of the Spanish - I could puzzle out some of it, but it was nice knowing that the translations were there when I needed them.

It seems odd to me that in the whole story Rey never once morns for his mother. He did not even seen remotely interested in HOW she died except to prove him and his daughter innocent.

I'll grant you that what Rey needed was a good therapist and home care assistance, but you really don't need to be so negative about Priests and the Church. Therapy and Church are not mutually exclusive and there can be a role for each. Besides, no Priest, Minister, Rabbi, or other person involved in religion because of geniune conviction (or any other intelligent person) would ever tell someone that their wife's illness is there fault. (written by someone in the Church who raised a child with a disability who works in Mental Health).
Other than that I have been enjoying your story so far. Ithink your characterization of Lennie is good and am impressed by the presentation of McCoy. Although, I have to admit I find it hard to imagine Rey falling so far.

1) Serena Curtis and Serena Southerlyn are both named for L&O producer Dick Wolf?s daughter. Benjamin Bratt also appeared in another Dick Wolf show, Nasty Boys, in which his wife?s name was also Serena.

2) Haven?t checked with my medical source, but I?m pretty sure that Methotrexate and alcohol, though dangerous together, wouldn?t actually kill you - or at least, wouldn?t kill you as quickly as they did in the story.

Reminder: although marijuana is used medicinally to treat the symptoms of depression in the story, I am _not_ recommending it. The studies done on its usefulness are conflicting at best, and many attribute its use to _increasing_ the symptoms of depression.

I?m probably not going to be writing as much in the next little while ? RL is rearing its ugly head. I have some WIPs, including some companion pieces to Pretty Picture, but? it may be a long time before they?re ready for public consumption.

Great ending to a great story. I like how you let the time pass on it. 'Nobody's promised a happy ending' & sometimes we can only pick up the pieces & go from there. Hope these reviews have encouraged you to write more fic-especially with Rey.
