What they said.:-) This is a real gem; it would grace the Tolkien_Darkfic and Silmarillion lists beautifully, and it's even on a level with the quality of Bellatrys' snippets (which I thought no one could equal).

If I have any criticism, it is this: the final paragraph *might* be better set off by itself, with a three-line break. That's because there's a lapse of time between the rest of the story and it, which I feel needs expression.

But in any case, a brilliant, brilliant piece of work!

I've been meaning to read this for a while now, and I'm so glad I finally got around to it. Awesome! You give Ungoliant such character- she had me cackling in evil delight. So many good lines- "There is no lord of the darkness, only a Queen. I created it. I have devoured the light..." "The darkness folds around me like a cape, and while it oppresses you, it feeds me." She truly is darkness itself, like a black hole sucking everything in. I particularly like how you mention that Morgoth's cry pleases her, swelling her sense of power. Then the end, with the Light burning through her dark webs. Her hunger is now for revenge... "You have cheated me."

Pure exellence. I hope you write more Silmarillion fics!

Yes, Morgoth seems small and weak in malice compared to Ungoliant, who IS darkness and will not stoop secretly to the light. A good portrayal of total evil.

Stunning! I can't remember having read anything in this topic yet, and your portrayal of evil is so excellent, it could give a person nightmares. You should not make your allies mad at you, as we can see, especially, when they can do nasty things to you!
