Nice story and good idea. You should do more research though into names and kind of ammo the guns shoot because you got it wrong in some places.

Okay, Cheah. I'm wrong. I know. It's already been pointed out. Take a deep breath and chill.
Cheah 4/29/04 . chapter 5
I'm a Singaporean, you know. It is clear that your research, assuming that you had done any, is COMPLETELY WRONG!
Our Coast Guard do NOT do this sort of takedown, but would rather call in the Navy. Your Singaporean names are more Thai and Vietnamese than Asian (most of us have roots in China!). Our guys CANNOT tell the difference between an AK-47 and an AK-74. The drug dealer should be afraid of getting caught and executed by hanging (we really don't care if you're a foreigner or not). We actually have a SpecOps capability, and our Navy Divers (that's their name, though I don't agree) are trained for this sort of situation. We don't have MH-47 Chinooks. Instead, we have the conventional CH-47 variant. Finally, if I were a terrorist, I would start spraying the hostages full of lead upon knowing of the Harrier's presence.

First...the Singapore Coast Guard boats are armed. When they are fired on, they will return fire with their MP5s. You won't believe how accurate they are.

Second, you can't shout "S*!" in Mandarin for the simple reason that there is no Mandarin equivalent.

Third, 'Trahn' is Vietnamese. Unless his father is Vietnamese (almost impossible), he can't have that surname.

Fourth, drug takedowns are not routine in Singapore. The draconian drug laws have discouraged all but the most risk-taking people from attemting to smuggle opium.

Finally, WTH does Rainbow has to do with this? The police STAR team or Red Berets can handle these.
James Jago 3/17/03 . chapter 5
Absoloutely fantastic!

Just one tiny, tiny mistake; the MP-10 fires 10mm ammunition, not 9mm.

A Singaporean here...

Great work. A clean story focusing more on plot and characters rather than violence. A bit clinical, but captures the spirit of Rainbow's fast take-down methods.

Points to note though:

1.) Most Singaporeans do not have surnames such as Minh (That's a Korean name, I think). Most Singaporeans have Christian names (even if they are not Christians) followed by conventional Chinese names (eg. Lee, Chan, Chong, Tan, etc). The majority of Singaporeans are of Chinese descent, but think of themselves as "Singaporeans". As Singapore is a multi-racial society, one can also use names of any race. Finally, the vast majority of Singaporeans can speak and read English (all street signs in Eng).

2.) Singapore does have special forces and elite troops. Our Naval Divers (part of the RSN) are trained in storming hostage situations on ships. Our Special Operations Force is also trained in the same methods such as counter-terrorist formations the world over.

Just ask the 4 terrorists that hijacked one of our 747's some years ago... We don't believe in playing nice with terrorists. D All 4 were promptly shot dead when the SOF stormed it, without any casualties to civilians or troopers.

KJ 8/27/02 . chapter 1
Great story. I really enjoyed reading them.

One thing though, the RAINBOW troops use 10mm MP version, but in the last part of the story, you said 9mm round finished the last terrorists off. That would seem a bit strange unless of course you ment to say they used the Berreta.

By the way, how would you consider changing RAINBOW sidearm to MK23 or USP? Just a suggestion, but I think the Berreta is getting old.
A Clancy Freak 8/6/02 . chapter 3
Great story, plenty of action and a nice unique situation. Only have a few suggestions, and that's only be cause I'm a nitpicker

1. Italize(sp?) your ship names and classes - makes story easier to read.

2. You didn't include any attempt at negotiations, and didn't give us an in depth picture of the terrorists

3. A real nitpick here, the fact that RAINBOW uses only 45. Berettas, and no Glocks

That's about it. Over all, a fairly good hostage situation and resolution. Good work. Adios!

This is holding true to Clancy's characters better than some of the others on the Clancy site here.
BeccaRamsey 3/22/02 . chapter 2
You've done a good job setting the stage for the story. Characterization seems pretty good so far, and I'm definitely waiting on the next chapters!
