Now this was an interesting read. Definitely liked the imagery and the process of the protagonist's degeneration into madness. The DFO section needs more stories like yours.

Good from beginning to end. There's some formatting errors you should've caught before submitting it, but that's a minor detail. You also had me think it was from the point of view of Jirhalde.

Other than that, this was really engaging. :] The nails torn out of the hands part would be bad for someone squeamish, but you're lucky I'm not. Otherwise, I'd be one of those friends of yours that have a year-long hiatus from DFO.
