Electricboa 4/16/13 . chapter 13Well, I actually finished it, though I do kind of have to separate the story with the style of writing. First person is still not really for me. After finishing, I remembered the other reason they don't appeal to me. For whatever reason, I can't really remember all that many scenes clearly. In third person stories, I usually have a very good memory for scenes, but first person is more of a blur with only a couple scenes really standing out. I can see why you picked Starfire for the P.O.V., though it's a little odd to see her warrior side show through that way. Again, it could just be me, but it's more impactful, I think, when we see the action without the thought leading up to it. All that being said, on to the content. I liked the premise, it's another alternate take on the start of their romantic relationship. The Titans get-together was funny, especially the waffle iron. Including the other Titans leads to some of my favorite interactions. The only thing was the actual kiss, it did seem kind of abrupt, after all of Robin's denial. We, the reader, really didn't know that Robin was thinking about kissing her back in the closet, since Starfire didn't. |

Ninetailsjinx 2/6/13 . chapter 13Oh, oh, oh! I just want to forget about this so I can go back and read it all over again, I enjoyed it that much. I admit, I've been avoiding the Touch series because I normally prefer third-person narratives, and many first-person fics I've read from Starfire's point of view read awkwardly-in an unpleasant rather than endearing way-due to her peculiar speech pattern, but this was truly adorable. As I suspect you intended, the level of introspection Starfire...experienced(?) during Touch was certainly best enjoyed through first-person. Her emotion, her reasoning, her reflection-it would have been difficult to write these things in third-person and still have the same effect on the audience, so I was pleasantly surprised at how much I loved this writing style. I also appreciated the level of respect the two had for one another regarding the issue, as well as the age-appropriate immaturity displayed and the fact that when one (cough cough Robin) party acted disrespectfully, the other called them out, such as in the closet scene. This brand of seduction, flirting, and commitment-phobia deeply contrasted other romances I've read where the characters acted abusively toward the other person-through emotional blackmail, guilt, coersion, and forceful "affection" bordering on sexual assault-and their behavior was celebrated as being "romantic." Seriously, as a person intending to go to graduate school for women's rights-related issues, I can't tell you how appreciative I am that you didn't have the characters reward abusive behavior in their relationship. Of course, even from a non-analytical point of view, this was just such a thrill to read. I frequently giggled like a middle schooler and metaphorically bit my nails throughout the whole thing. Thanks for posting! |
Joshua 1/20/13 . chapter 13 This story was just as much fun the second time I read it. "Touch" was actually the first story of yours that I have read, and was really pleasantly surprised by it. I originally believed that it was going to be a dull "chick flick" kind of story, but you certainly proved me wrong! The characterizations were excellent, and the humorous bits actually had me laughing quite often. I nearly busted a gut during the whole "7 Minutes in Heaven" scene! I sincerely hope that you will continue portraying Robin and Starfire such as this in your future stories (not like you did in "Secrets of the Heart"). Anyway, "Touch" is must read for any Teen Titans fan, so I will award it a 9/10. |

Caprichoso 12/24/12 . chapter 1It's odd that I hadn't given this much thought before, but... BB and Raven are together *before* Robin and Starfire stop dancing around each other? This is a very, very different reality from most of your pieces. Who'da thunk the two would get the guts to take the plunge first? Actually, I'm curious as to what your backstory for the two of them getting together is for this one; I don't think it was outlined in the outtakes. Also, Happy Christmas! (Or however you Aussies with your funny English that's closer to the correct way say it.) |
CherriDoll 12/24/12 . chapter 13Aw. Poor Starfire. All she wanted was a kiss. But the Robin had to go and be a dick about it. Go Starfire. She's always my favorite. |
Guest 11/25/12 . chapter 13 And you have Wowed me again! God I love your writing I can't seem to get off your page! :) |
Hammer of Oblivion 11/14/12 . chapter 13I was going to do an overall review of the entire series like I did with the E'ara Universe novels but these, in my mind deserve individual reviews. First of all this is a great introductory story to the Touch series and does a good job of laying the ground work for the rest of the series. The interaction between Starfire and Robin are very good and I like their characterizations here much better than in the E'ara series. Starfire is less neurotic in these stories (though I can understand why she was in E'ara) and Robin is more grounded and not as angry. He still has his flaws to be sure, but a better character altogether. I like how she wore him down too, though she finally became frustrated at the end, but Robin finally saw that it wasn't worth losing her as a friend and there much more to their relationship than friendship and he finally saw it and woke up. Great relationship story, but a teaser for things to come in the sequels. |
