Although I have no clue what the tune actually is, I assumed the song to be sung/recited in the manner of so many rhyming children's books and, as such, was an absolute delight to read out loud. Even if, in my haste to get the pacing right, I had to repeat several lines to get them right.
I have to say, the first and last verses were the most fun, as was the last couplet in Ravenclaw's verse.

The song was very well-written!! XD And hooray for the politically-correct Sorting Hat!! XD

Heh, I'm iffy about G & S myself, but as long as you have that tune rattling around in your brain, might as well learn the words to the Element Song (I believe the tune is the same). That wasy, instead of just an annoying tune, you've now got an annoying tune with debatable usefulness! :)

Oh this is BRILLIANT! I applaude your skills, I really do. This must have taken quite some time and effort to write. I had to sing it out loud for best effect, and I'm just glad that there was noone else in the room at the time... Loved the concept that the Sorting Hat doesn't actually write it's own songs - I can imagine it getting very bored and being silly, and the pattersong is *so* Snape being tongue in cheek and forced cheerful. Very true to character, and logical consequences of those characters. Once again, thankyou for a lovely piece, and for cheering me up. I'd love to write Professor Jordan's rap version, just to be able to read it, but I don't think my skills are up to it! (Also, loved the snippet at the beginning! Though I had to go and youtube for the tune).

Wow *.* Really awesome song, I´ve never read something like this before. You obviously put a lot of effort into it.
I just listened to the song "Modern Major General" on youtube, and it´s really damn fast >.<
The lyrics lone are pretty funny, but after listening to the song, they are even funnier than before ;)
So, excellent job, I really like your sense of humor.
