My spontaneous alternate ending:

Mikan sighed up at Natsume. She could see him reading his manga by the window from outside. He had the most irritated look on his face. This was when the girl considered if she was doing the opposite of making him smile... what if she was making him unhappy, instead? That wouldn't do any good!

Appalled at her rash actions, Mikan raced into the building and up the stairs, frantically trying to think of something to cheer him up again. An apology? Let him tease her for a day? Yeah, that would make him at least more pleased.

As the door burst open she had decided that the apology needed to come first. She stalked through the empty - except for Natsume and her - classroom and stood right beside the indifferent boy. After a few seconds in that pose, Natsume sighed and looked up at her, "If this is another annoying way of trying to make me laugh, sorry, but you should probably just give up now."

Natsume was surprised to see her shake her head. "Uh-uh," she said, "I just realised how annoying it must have been. I've only been doing the opposite of making you happier. I'm here to apologize." Natsume's eyes widened. He had not been expecting that.

Bowing down low, Mikan stated, "To compensate, I'm allowing you to tease me for the rest of the day!"

Natsume absorbed the words. Then his crimson pupils flashed. He grabbed the still-bowed Mikan by the waist and plonked her down next to him. He leaned his face in towards hers and said in a low voice, "Oh if that's the case, then I'm putting you through a lot of hell, little girl!"

Mikan swallowed hard and looked with fear and anticipation at the mischievous looking boy before her. She closed her eyes tight, cringed and prepared herself for her hair to be burnt, underwear flashed or ribs zapped.

But none came.

Instead, the grip on her waist loosened and she opened on eye. "I'm joking, Polka," Natsume explained, "that's enough teasing for you anyway." Mikan blinked. "Hey," Natsume continued pointing to his face, "does this smirk count?"

Mikan pouted and turned away after she realised the nature of his teasing, "No, it doesn't. Besides, you told me to give up on that already. I guess we'll all just have to accept that nothing in the world can make Natsume Hyuuga smile. It's one of the impossible feats."

Natsume smirked wider, "There's only one thing that can make me smile."

This caught Mikan by surprise and curiosity got the better of her as she whipped her head around. Unfortunately for her, Natsume ws expecting this and caught her lips in his. His eyes shut and Mikan sat there dumbfounded. Well, she ended up kissing back after the initial shock disappeared.

Natsume pulled out and Mikan simply stared. Then, Natsume's lips pulled upwards and he showed Mikan the smile that he had reserved only for her. Flushed, Mikan only gulped. After taking in more of his smile she smiled too.

"Well, actually," Natsume concluded, "I wouldn't mind having to smile a lot more."

GOSH, THAT'S LONG. I GOT CARRIED AWAY CUZ I REALLY LIKED YOUR STORY... woah, how spontaneous can you get, writing and alternate ending in a review? Is that annoying?
