Queen Boadicea 5/1/12 . chapter 1After going through some of my reviews again, I found myself intrigued by one of yours, enough so that I clicked on your user name in order to peruse your own fanfiction.
My, you’ve been busy! You write so well and for so many different genres, fields, shows, etc. You’re quite the prolific writer. With over 300 stories to your credit, I really didn’t know where to start.
However, when I saw the summary of this story, I couldn’t resist reading. “La Dame aux Camellias” was one of my favorite novels, too, when I was younger and retains a place of affection in my heart. (That is the proper name for this story, by the way; “Camille” was a misnomer created by those who turned it into a play. The actress playing the titular role was said to be furious since Camille is a man’s name not a woman’s and has nothing to do with the novel.)
Marguerite’s thoughts are so clearly laid out, so poignant in their tenderness and wonder. I felt as if I were right there with her, laid out on some grassy knoll with Armand by my side, watching his face as his sleeps. You can feel how dearly she loves him, how awed, humbled and happy she feels to know that he loves her, when she’d given up any idea that she might actually be loved. She understands how precious and how special love is, especially when given to a woman in her situation and you limn those emotions with aching beauty.
Even though we the reader know the outcome of this story, you make us feel suspended in a bubble, an oasis, of perfect happiness. We, too, like Marguerite feel blessed and happy as if nothing harmful, evil or ugly in the world could ever touch us. Kudos. |
Laudine 5/9/09 . chapter 1I love this. You capture Marguerite so well. |
RougeChic 10/2/03 . chapter 1I almost didn't review this because I'm a little... late on reading it. Lol. But I JUST finished reading "Camille" a couple nights ago, and I really cried myself to sleep. I'm so happy that there are a few little fics here and there about it, and even more so that there's a FLUFF one! I'm obsessed with fluff... even though I only read it for Moulin Rouge (the obsession that started it all for me- fanfic, I mean. Heh.). This just touched my heart. Since the book is from Armand's point of view, I thought it was so wonderful and unique that it was Marguerite talking. And you really stayed in character with her, with her calling him "friend" and "child" and all. It's quite difficult to live up to Dumas fils! But you did a beautiful, beautiful job. Oh... by the way... I LOVE YOUR MOULIN ROUGE FICS! I'm so serious. I totally worship all that you write. (Your HP stuff rox too).
Whew.
That was a long review.
Keep it up!

Cleopatra 6/19/03 . chapter 1 I didn't like it. I value frankness, and well, here it is. First of all, Armand tells the story. Secondly, this isn't a story. It sounds like an excerpt. Where is the story? Are you not imaginative enough to think of something beyond Dumas fils' story? Try again. |
UbiquitousMixie 4/20/02 . chapter 1that was sweet! camille was such a great book, and this was a really sweet, touching, addition! |
