Dine89 5/23/11 . chapter 1Wohoo! I love you sweet family oneshots, thank you so much for writing them. It’s always so much fun to see them at home, being a normal family outside of work. This way we can also see that it’s not easy for Danny and Lindsay to have such a gruesome and difficult job. Sometimes it’s just not possible to leave the cases at work; some of them are troubling them even when they’re off the clock. So it’s wonderful to see what a great team Danny and Lindsay are. They support each other and always have each other’s back, I really, really love that.
Btw, I love that Danny and Lindsay are living in a nice house, in a quiet area where their kids have a backyard to play in and where it’s not as dangerous as in the city. And what’s even better is the fact that Danny loves this area so much, because he grew up there, I have no doubt that he loves living there again, he feels home there. But on this day, he can’t help but feeling down, the case he had to work on was obviously was a little too much for him to handle. He just can’t forget about it. Danny hates feeling that way, when he comes home he wants to enjoy his time with his girls, especially now where he is only weeks away of being a daddy again. He doesn’t want to bother Lindsay and Lucy with horrible cases which haunt him. But he can’t help, no matter how hard he tries, he can’t simply forget about it and pretend everything it okay. Not that he has a saying in that matter anyway, as soon as he comes home he knows that Lindsay and Lucy know that he had a hard day at work - thanks to Don. LOL. I’m glad though that Don called Lindsay and told her that Danny needs her and Lucy once he gets home. He’s a wonderful friend and just wants to make sure he’s okay. And hey, after all Lindsay and Lucy way to cheer Danny up seems to work quite well. “Daddy, do you want me to get you something?” Lucy wanted to know. “Do you want to watch TV? Or read your favorite magazine? Mommy and I bought you loads earlier. They are full of baseball. Or do you want anything else?” Danny couldn't help but slightly raise an eyebrow at his excited, little daughter. He couldn't help the feeling that Lucy hadn't just come up with those ideas all of the sudden. “You can also play with me if you want,” she continued suggesting. “You can pick whatever doll you want.”-“Lucy, maybe allow Daddy a moment to relax. He just came home from work,” Lindsay said before Danny could reply. She had joined them in the living room as well, with a smile carrying a large tray. Lucy sighed. “Okay. But can I at least turn on the TV for Daddy? Then I'll go and play until he's not tired anymore.”
Aw… Lucy is too cute for words; she makes my heart melt every time. It’s so sweet how thoughtful and caring she is about her daddy, she really wants to make sure he’s okay and feeling well. I think this says a lot about Lucy as a person, even though she’s still young she knows when her daddy, or her parents in general, need her. She doesn’t like it when one of them is sad. Danny and Lindsay did a wonderful job raising her, she’s such a caring, sweet, smart, funny and loving person. I love that a lot. Of course Lindsay told her that her daddy had a bad day at work, but she didn’t tell her that she has to do all this for him. That was Lucy’s own decision and that’s great and simply amazing. She definitely reminds me of Lindsay. :-) Danny though doesn’t know that yet and is kind of surprised by his girls; he obviously didn’t expect such a treatment. LOL. “What's going on here?” he wanted to know. “I just thought you'd like something nice for dinner,” Lindsay replied. Danny offered a tiny smile. “That's sweet. But...don't get me wrong, I love all this. But usually, you two don't behave like...that. You know.” Quickly he added, “And don't try to argue, you know that I know you.” The sight of his wife had a surprisingly calming effect on him, along with the sounds of Lucy playing upstairs. He hadn't wanted to carry his bad feelings with him, but somehow they didn't seem to bother him as much as they had earlier anymore. Lindsay opened her mouth, clearly to contradict, but all she did then was releasing a sigh. “Fine,” she said then. “Don called me and said you had quite a rough day. He just wanted to warn me.”-“And?” he couldn't help but ask. She shrugged. “I know how some cases affect you. I know it from own experience. I love this job, and you know that. But believe me, sometimes I'm glad I can stay here with Lucy. Especially now with the other baby almost here.” Instinctively, her hand came to rest on her very round belly. Reaching out, he placed his on top of hers. “Anyway,” Lindsay continued then. “After such a day, I thought it was only fair to make sure you'd feel comfortable at home. “I thought just asking you want happened and making you talk wouldn't really be what you'd need. I thought I'd rather make sure you have something that distracts you a bit.”
That is so sweet! But I didn’t expect anything else from Lindsay; we all know what a loving and caring mother and wife she is. She always wants to make sure that her little family happy. That’s definitely something she and Danny have in common and it seems that Lucy isn’t any different. She also knows when her mommy or daddy needs some hugs and kisses, even without being told. She’s a smart little girl and can feel when something is wrong. I think this is very uncommon for such a little girl, no wonder Danny is touched by how thoughtful his baby girl is. But of course Danny doesn’t really care about himself, when he realize how much thought and work Lindsay out into making him feel better, he immediately has to make sure she didn’t overdo it. After all she is heavily pregnant. “So you called my Ma for this recipe just to make me feel better with self made pizza? I thought I told you to relax and not exhaust yourself with making pizza.” She smiled up at him. “You should know that I loved doing it.” She placed a soft kiss onto his cheek. “Now enjoy this and relax. You're home. The world out there is miles away.”
Lindsay of course doesn’t mind doing that for him, she loves it actually. I think helping him to feel better, makes her feel better as well. She loves it that her cooking and her caring and thoughtful behavior help him to forget about a shitty day. Though I know for a fact that Danny doesn’t need all of that, for him it would be enough to be close to his family. That’s all he needs. Just the presence of his two favorite girls is enough to distract him, make him forget about work and make him feel safe and sound. Still Lindsay and Lucy have the wish to help him even more and what would be better than his mom’s self made pizza? No wonder he feels so much better afterwards. :-) “How are you feeling now?” Lindsay asked after he had finished dinner. “Do you want to do anything else?” Danny thought for a moment. “Actually yes,” he said then. “I'd like to play with Lucy a bit. And when she's in bed, I'd like to join a nice, hot bath with my wife. Do you think that's okay?” A smirk lit Lindsay's face. “Does that bath involve anything naughty?”-“Depends?” he replied with a wink. She laughed. “Well, I wouldn't mind.” Wrapping her arms around his neck, she kissed him before she made him look at her. “Just keep something in mind. This is your home. This is your family. There's no need for thinking you can't come home, feeling bad. We're here for you.”-“I'm not really surprised you read my mind again,” he answered with a smirk of his own. “Good.” She kissed him again. “Now play with your daughter. I'll start preparing our bath already.”
I love that Danny just wants to be with his girls now, I think after a shitty day that’s the right thing. Playing with Lucy will cheer him up, she’s so adorable he will be smiling and laughing in no time. Lucy just knows how to make her daddy happy. And what can I say? A nice bath with Lindsay afterwards sounds pretty damn perfect if you ask me. It’s so nice to see that being around his girls is all Danny needs, everything else is easily forgotten, I really like that. For Danny, his family is all he needs. :-)
Excellent job hon! And since you know how much I love you sweet family oneshots, you know what to do – keep them coming. :D |
afrozenheart412 4/16/11 . chapter 1Perfect, it doesn't have to be longer, but this message is real. Danny is no longer alone, he has a family who loves him and takes care of him whenever he feels like life is getting too much for him. This had a timeless quality because it doesn't reference the case that has him so down...and that is awesome! Because there will be cases that will look like it is about to crush his spirit, but it won't. Lindsay and Lucy won't let it. :)
I had to laugh at Lucy with her suggestions, she is so adorable! I especially love the one about how he could pick any of her dolls to play with, very sweet! But my favorite is when she told him about how her and Mommy picked up some of his favorite magazines that were full of baseballs stuff, LOL! I still love that episodic shot you did! All in all these are my favorite moments in of here:
"Barely he had managed to close the front door when his five years old daughter already rushed into the hallway with a broad smile.
"Daddy!" she exclaimed happily, throwing herself into her father's open arms. "You're home!" Her tiny arms wrapped around his neck tightly as she snuggled into him, and despite his horribly mood, he could feel the first hints of this familiar warmth which he always felt when he was around his loved ones. The way this innocent girl showed him her happiness about him being home was already enough to push a few of his bad thoughts out of his mind."
"She smiled up at him. "You should know that I loved doing it." She placed a soft kiss onto his cheek. "Now enjoy this and relax. You're home. The world out there is miles away."
And Danny followed Lindsay's wish. In silence, he ate pizza and watched whatever program she had chosen for him. All the time, his wife was sitting by his side, watching him, gently running a hand through his short hair. She didn't have to say or ask anything. Just her presence was enough for him to get better with every passing second. With every moment he sat there, he could feel himself calming down. The memories of his case faded until they seemed to disappear out of his mind completely, taking the aching pain with them.
He hadn't wanted to take work with him back home. He didn't want to bother his little family with his bad thoughts and he had felt uncomfortable with entering their house and his problem to simply leave work behind.
By now, he knew his thoughts had been wrong. There was no problem with taking such thoughts back home. He had a wife and a daughter who cared enough to prepare everything for his arrival so he could just sit down and slowly, ever so slowly, get over what was bothering him. He wasn't affecting them with his mood. Instead they were making sure that he remembered where he was; at home, with his loved ones, where work didn't matter."
