Reviews for If At First
knittingeek 4/28/11 . chapter 5
First of all, I absolutely loved the last line of the last chapter. There is so much hope in this chapter. And really there is nothing that a red velvet cupcake can't fix. I'm so glad she insisted and that he didn't get to do perfection because this is so them. It's a nice breather before they have to delve into reality. Once again you've left me with a silly grin. Thank you :o)

I can't believe I didn't leave a review for this chapter yesterday. I could feel the heaviness of the rain and how it affected them, you write so well. Not only can I really picture the whole scenario, I can feel it too. My heart is breaking for them. I literally checked all day long for an update so I could get this heaviness out of my chest. You are spoiling us with these quick updates.

This chapter warmed me up inside. I hope Kate will continue to let Rick be there for her. More, please!

Oh, this was lovely. You're really, really good at description, and setting the mood - that moment under the rain was wonderful. I love these two so much, and you write them so well.

I loved the way Castle was trying to "play it cool" during the first part of the chapter - it felt very...Castle. Awesome sentence: "He felt the absurd need to text his daughter the news: I made Kate happy."

Again, so very Castle. Looking forward to next chapter :)!

Love it! As usual ;) Not just your take on the characters (and definitely feels natural and in-character), but also your writing style. Can't remember if I've said that before.

I really liked the last line that Beckett says! Great story so far. Lots of stuff happening and suspensful! Keep up the great work and please update soon!

- ""But I need you!"

She could see, by that astonishment on his face, that he hadn't known he was going to say it."

- "So she said the only thing she could see. "I don't want to go anywhere you're not.""

Absolutely made of win.

I think this a great way to have their loyalty challenged and I am happy to see they are sticking together! Great idea!

I've always wondered about the ramifications of bringing a civilian into the melee of an ongoing investigation and I'm so glad you went there. This is clearly going to add to the elephant in the room and I cannot wait.

Thanks for the update!

Great story you have going on here so far. Different from all the other stories that are floating around here so it's new and refreshing. I understand why Beckett was being so hard on Castle about what was going on with Alexis. Glad to see this situation is bringing Beckett and Castle closer together.

Great encounter, great dialog so true to character. I'm anxious to see where you take this to next. A really nice job.

I didn't have time to review yesterday, but this is the hell of a story that you've got going there. I don't believe I've ever seen that issue tackled - the idea that politics might get in the way of Castle riding along with the 12th, that Kate's career could be threatened like this.

And yet it is so believable - especially when you're the one writing it. This chapter was gorgeous (the last one's ending had me feeling like a rug had been pulled from under me); heart-breaking and moving in ways I can't fully express. I love that at least, they're in this together. I also love their mirroring admissions - Castle, that he needs her; and Kate that she doesn't want to go anywhere he's not. Beautiful, and completely in character. Can't wait for more!

Ok - that explains the somewhat over the top reaction to Castle's 'hypothetical' problem.

I've said for ages that it'll take something significant to drive them to admit their feelings for one another. Kudos to you for finding a far more unusual cause than having one of them shot/injured. A politician using his presence as a way to take a run at the current mayor etc seems plausible.

Interesting, House of Mirth, please continue promptly (though i feel i must note that you are not living up to your name here.)

WOW what a ride you have started! The legal implications are enormous! Review board for Kate? Oh this is the Dragon really getting back at them! I so love this story! Please update Immediately!
gilmoradict 4/27/11 . chapter 4
Ha! This is brilliant! I think this is the first plausibly written story in which Beckett takes the first, intelligent, thoughtful step! Wahoo! This is pure Beckett. Strong, silent to a fault perhaps, but only as it magnifies her compassionate, caring nature. I love it! While Rick may be the more impulsive of the duo, he's tied up in knots over Kate and has been paralyzingly unable to man up and make a move. Or maybe it's just that Kate bears all the risk in their relationship, and knowing that, Rick can't push things. This is a great take on what could, or should happen between them. Once again, impressed by your insights. Write on!
