...wow. where did that come from? Well, anyway, I wanted to thank you on this wonderful (yet sad) fic. It's the best alternative coupling fic I've read in a good while,(even though I don't like Rinoa that much, being a yaoi fan an all) and it's inspired me to write! Thank you!(I hope I don't sound to pathetic here!)

This was a very good story...

It was a little distrubing (sorry, i'm too much the Squall fan), but follows believable characterizations nonetheless.

I want to be angry, because it was so easy (it really was; sorry) for Rinoa to replace Squall in her heart (if you follow the assumption that she and Zell think that Rinoa and Squall were meant for each other, which chapter 7 implies).

Her deep love for Zell (which you probably meant to imply was equal to that of her love for Squall) really does lessen her relationship with Squall. Some people might argue that Rinoa is a wellspring of love and that she has plenty enough for EVERYONE, but that doesn't exactly fit into a Soulmate/Fated/Meant to be Together type of love relationship (I apologize again for being a hopeless Squall/Rinoa romantic).

She loves Squall, she loves Zell. We already know that it doesn't really take that much effort for Rinoa to put Squall in the past (let's face it, although she had hesitations, we both know she would have eventually agreed to Zell's proposal, and definately lived happily ever after without even having the least bit of afterthought about Squall[eventually, I give it a year after the marriage at most; i'm basing this estimation on the characterization of Rinoa in your story]), but how easy would it be for Rinoa to forget about Zell, especially since she A) knows he's alive B) still is in close contact with him AND (most importantly) C) knows that Zell still loves her (in a TRUE love sense) and that she really does still love him too.

What does that make her relationship with Squall based on?

And when a relationship is based on that, things are always bound for heart-break. Squall will always be a reminder to Rinoa of the could-have-beens and what-ifs of her relationship with Zell, and Rinoa will always be a reminder to Squall of how much pain his existence brings to everyone he gets close to.

Knowing that his 'selfish' "ressurection" brought so much misery to the two people he is supposedly the closest to, must be killing him on the inside. So many people have left him behind before in his life; when he begins to let people get close to him again, the second he turns around (or in this case, supposedly dies), everyone leaves him behind again. Right or wrong, Zell and Rinoa betrayed Squall in the most vicious way imaginable. It wasn't in the fact that Zell in Rinoa found "true" love in each other (that isn't something to get upset about, some things are just meant to happen under certain circumstances); It was in the fact that Zell and Rinoa (especially Zell) left him behind when he wasn't really gone (it doesn't matter whether or not they believed he was dead; that fact doesn't rationalize to someone suffering from severe seperation anxiety). Staying with Rinoa will only deepen his fears of rejection, always suspecting that Rinoa only stays with him out of guilt for her "betrayal". I'm sure Squall will convince himself that (once again) he was always meant to be alone.

It's so sad....

Like I said before, I want to be angry, but I can't. Despite the fact that the people who meant the most to him "betrayed" him, Squall stayed true to what he believed in: his trust in his friends. It just depresses me a little when i'm reminded of how fleeting love really is. It comes and goes at the merest glance or fondest memory. It really has no substance without the trust behind it to make it meaningful. It's something neither Rinoa or Zell could do for Squall [and his relationship with Rinoa](even when Rinoa believed Squall might be alive, she still would have gone to Zell if Squall hadn't shown up; and Zell.....well Rinoa said it best when she told him Squall was alive "You...you wouldn't even care if you believed m-me..."). It doesn't matter anyway, because Zell is the happy go lucky cheerful nice guy and Rinoa is the sweet friendly beautiful nice girl; they must be meant for each other, right? Who is Squall anyway? He's just the poor little orphan boy always left behind, with enough emotional baggage to keep someone depressed for three lifetimes. Let's put aside the fact that that alone would disqualify Squall from ever finding happiness, but who in the world deserves to be stuck with someone as pitiful as Squall. I guess that's why I like Squall so much. He really understands the meaning of sorrow (without drowning in it)....and in that way, he really understands the meaning of hope, and love, and trust, and life.....and all the reasons to appreciate them in whatever small ways you can. Maybe he really doesn't deserve happiness; Maybe he's too fragile for it or anyone else who might give it to him.

Sorry for the LONG review (and sounding like a psycho in the process probably..hehe), but this really was a great and interesting story. I really hope you write a sequel to this soon. It could go in so many directions, I don't even know where to begin but I have plenty of story ideas if you needed any, or I could even write one for you (with your permission of course). Okay, this fic is getting better and better every single chapter you write and thnaks so much for updating soon and reviewing my "Age Ain't" story. You're such a talented writer, I wrote you as my fave and stuff like on my profile thingie here or whatever it's called. Ah, and a lemon scene would be GREAT for your kick-A story, Her. Yeah, I really enjoy that one. I'm not very good at lemon scenes either...I've only done, say...one actually. But I have one saved up for...erm...yeah, my story! And like...I just got help on it.
