Well, this is new! For a world as grim as that of Eli's, this is much-needed comic relief, said relief made possible from the ignorance of Alcatraz scholars and the Runners, as well as a few sacriligeous (not that I'm complaining) inside jokes that we recognize ("Mel Gibson's" Torah(?) Runner drug-tested for Buddha sighting? Hindu text retrieval defeated by holy cattle stampede?), and some pop culture zingers that *should* be obvious, but which are are currently flying over my head.

Also, would that post-apocalyptic talking dog (in the search for the Satanic text) happen to be "Blood," from Harlan Ellison's "A Boy and his Dog?" Or a reference to "Son of Sam" killer, David Berkowitz and his rants about a Satanic talking dog driving him to kill? If the latter, maybe this sheds light on the fate of the Runner last seen with the dog...
