It definitely comes off as a realistic way to think of things, at least to me. I never did get the sense that Neal felt all *that* much about Alex; I mean, at least in what I've seen, he cared way more for Kate than he ever did for Alex. Their connection seems to be purely physical, nothing like love. And if we can pin Kate leaving on Alex's tip, then we can pin everything that came after on that, too, and, well, we know how that ended for Kate...
