So I have NO idea why I haven't submitted a review for this earlier - actually I do know, I'm busy (read: lazy) and somehow always close out of these windows without even glancing at the review button. But I just have to tell you that your writing is perfect. I'm always in awe of everything that you're able to express through these characters. I'm sure I've read nearly everything you've posted here, but this little drabble series, and really this chapter in particular, is absolutely my favorite. Keep doing what you're doing - whenever I get a new alert in my inbox from you, I freak out a little inside, ha. :) I know you get (literally) hundreds of reviews, but I'm hopeful that you read this one and would possibly have a moment to reply.

What I really want to ask is about the phrase used for the title of this chapter: vultum ad solem verte ut umbrae post te cadant. This phrase has been stuck with me since the moment I read it here. I read a lot, and that is one of the most beautiful things I have ever read, and the concept itself, almost of physically choosing to turn away from the darkness in your life and in yourself, and instead choosing to face the beauty and lightness and warmth of the world full on - I haven't been able to get it out of my head. Is that something that you came up with on your own for the purposes of the story? Or is it from somewhere else? How accurate is the latin translation? To be completely honest, it made such an impact that I've been toying with the idea of getting it tattooed on myself for the better part of six months, and am actually just really curious of its origins. If you have a second, a reply would be amazing - if not, just take this as a simple review and ignore the bottom half of this message. Your writing is beautiful, and will always be a favorite. :)

Awesome origin story. I wish I could italicize things in a review. Just imagine I'm saying "awesome" with a lot of emphasis.

In 736 words, you managed to show that Kate was a typical teenager once and didn't always have an ideal relationship with her mom, and how that changed once Johanna died. How everything was suddenly more important. How do you do that? It's a big impact and a big message in a little package.

This was no exception! love seeing how the relationship between the officers is an intricate one.

You've definitely shown their strong, family-like bond in very few words. I've always kind of wondered if Beckett would ever acknowledge that someone on her team must have introduced Castle to her mom's file. Kudos for the original plot and for the excellent read.
