Ooza, so much of this story was so close to home for me. My oldest brother spent thre years in a federal prison. My family got to know way more than we ever wanted to know about our justice and prison system than we ever imagined. So, I had a strong affinity toward both Edward and Bella. And, even though Edward was in a state facility, that doesn’t change how the whole experience affects everyone.

To say that there is something wrong with our systems is a gross understatement. Edward said it best with: “I don’t belong here. I was guilty and I deserved to be punished, but not like this. I’ve seen drug dealers and rapists released in less time than me.” The time he was sentenced to was crazy. And, our ‘ mandatory minimum’ sentencing is insane. My heart was just aching for Edward when he spoke about the length of his sentence.

I wish every inmate could have someone like Bella to impart this wisdom: “you have to live with it, but that doesn't mean it has to define you, either. Not everyone is going to write you off because of your past. Have some faith in yourself.” Unfortunately, this is a very hard lesson to learn because society defines these people. It’s very hard to overcome.

One of the saddest things Edward said was: “Will you visit me? I can’t do this alone anymore. I need someone.” It just broke my heart. Thank God, Bella went with her gut instinct on this instead of listening to her logical voice in her head.

And this: “Some of the applications asked about felony convictions, but even if they didn’t, my work history has all been at Waterview.” I found very interesting. I still remember when my brother was first released, his probation officer actually told him to lie on job applications. It worked for him. He got a job and kept it for several years until our next-door neighbor (who worked with him) found out about his past and told the boss. He got fired. Not because of his background, but because he lied on the job application. So, basically, he as damned if he did, and damned if he didn’t. He never looked for a job again. But, he is one of the luckier ones. He was just about to turn 60, so he just ‘retired’.

I stumbled across your story on the lemonade stand... Being home sick over the weekend with hours to kill...pun not intended, i loved your story and was so moved be how these two over came such obstacles and the tough hands that were dealt. Great job!

An engrossing read, unputdownable. With just under 90,000 words, you were able to create such an amazing story ...with a perfect ending. Wish all twifics were like this.

Omg, my heart is broken for Edward! Of course, I understand why Charlie would be so concerned but it was still so sad & disturbing to see him being treated that way, knowing he is innocent.

I just started this one but I already love it! Their letters to each other are precious but the visit in this chapter broke my heart. Edward's obvious need for human contact & affection brought tears o my eyes. I just want to squish him! Lol
