It's interesting that her Ohio past keeps figuring in, how Ashley's music brings it back to her. I know it's kind of evil because everyone is so anxious for them to actually meet but I wonder if we're due for a flashback to explore some of that? I guess it can probably wait, but it seems like it's coming. Sharon being so intent on the stage, I wonder if she has a thing for Ashley. Or maybe they got together once. It could be an interesting dynamic if she has a thing for Ashley and then goes nuts if/when she sees Ashley start to "slip away". I'm really liking Kyla too but I want to see her interact with Ashley now to see why she felt like she had to send out the tapes.

It could be my love for drama talking but maybe pointing out the gay couple was foreshadowing of an incident to come? Though I guess it could just be a sign that Ashley's audience is more inclusive than you'd expect in the area, either way could help Spencer figure out Ashley is gay. I guess I should just wait for the story to unfold and not speculate, huh?
And Spencer is crazy, grilled cheese sandwiches are always the best.

So if Spencer follows along with Kyla's plan that might be better for getting the story, but obviously there's more to *this* story than that and lying to Ashley now is probably going to end up being a big thing later. Should be interesting.
The undercurrents swirling around the story are good too. Maybe it's just me putting my own story preferences onto this, but it seems like when she was younger Spencer put herself out there and learned the hard way that naivete is no insulation from getting hurt. And whatever happened was sufficient to ensure she never wanted to put herself in that position again. So the walls went up, and now she keeps people away, because she can't be hurt if she never really lets anyone in. But she can't really live either. The glimpse we get of Ashley (from Kyla's remark at the end) is that she's a free spirit, essentially wasting her talent playing dumpy bars in the middle of nowhere. That's another kind of defense mechanism, if she never really tries then she never has to fail.

So... like... chapter 7? I know, I know, /9HTelW, haha

wow. you really know how to build up anticipation. good job on the story. i can't wait until their first scene together. you have a way of just wanting to keep me coming back for more and more

This Spencer would probably rather gnaw off her own arm before riding up with Kyla and the gang, and coming back to stay at her house, but letting go of her shell and learning to be open again seems like it's going to be a big part of this story. So maybe riding up with Kyla and the girls where she gets set outside of her isolationist comfort zone and it's all about the joy in the experience is the best thing that could have happened. And should prove pretty hilarious either way."The last thing Spencer wants to do is to try and write a story while sleeping in the house of the story's subject it won't be good for anyone involved to get that close.
I have this feeling that things are going to get a bit closer than that, haha.

I keep meaning to review this but the offline reader thing broke so I haven't had a chance to catch up and there's that time sink someone got me into...

You already knew I liked the first two chapters but I love what you've done with 3 4, especially the introduction of the creepy pastor. How appropriate that he showed up right as the storm was about to hit, a little foreshadowing maybe? But yeah, bring on the Southern Gothic.

It'll be interesting to find out what the conflict between Ashley and the Pastor is, but I kind of think Spencer meeting Ashley right away would be a little anti-climactic. I want her to meet some more people (e.g. Kyla) who can build up some of the Ashley legend and stoke her curiosity some more and also give her a chance to lose some of her jadedness.
