joe 2/23/13 . chapter 10 this is so good bbut its coming to an end (so sad) |
magikid196 9/19/12 . chapter 13it's over already?! T_T *sigh* oh well... as they say "all good things come to an end" although I wish that this story will last longer. I'll just keep re-reading it when I feel like it _ truth be told, I don't really like sad stories(it's not that I hate sad stories I just don't like the feeling of sadness)... but when I was searching for a story to read and I found yours, and when you mentioned the story will be about Gabe and Joshua in the summary, I couldn't help but feel very intrigued so I started reading it and WOW this fanfic is REALLY AMAZING (credits to Tell Her This again) and for that I give you two thumbs up (b_)b I know I've said this before in my previous review(I think) but I really LOVE how you always successfully control our emotions according to the story like how sometimes I smile, feel angry, get surprised or even cry on the inside(I don't cry on the outside). anyways, I love how you made this chapter Naomi and Little Guy are even dating in this story(I absolutely love that pairing) you even made a cheesy moment between Alyssa and Joshua where she gave gave him a surprise kiss(like mother like daughter I guess) and yes Naomi knows all she even knows when to stop inspecting a crime scene ;) also the way you explained Collins's sad story(I hope that wasn't a lie) was also cool and of course it was also amazing that you made Gabe's relatives Italian(is he really or did you make that part up) and the ending was also AWESOME!(okay I'm running out of words synonymous to great XD)(by the way eggplant is a really cute name for a fish... maybe I should give my fish that name if I ever get one :D) so long-story short(if I can still call it that) the story is REALLY AMAZING! I'll miss the moments when I'll check if you updated yet and don't worry I'm not mad that you haven't updated for a long time it's kinda the same thing for me because I haven't updated my story for like 5 months I think due to writer's block _" so sorry if this Review is so long I just really wanted to tell you all this(well except the not updated story for 5 months part) I'm really glad you made this story _ well here's your last cookie from a bunny :D see you soon :D (\_/) (_) (O) U U |
Ulqui4 9/16/12 . chapter 1Really like the story. Well written |
Tell Her This 8/28/12 . chapter 13Well, I’ve finally found time to write a review for this. I’m somewhat sad that this is for the last chapter, but I guess all good things must come to an end at some point. I have had a great deal of fun beta reading for you (when that pesky little thing known as work hasn’t been getting in the way) and it’s been awesome getting to know you during our PM conversations about politics and Legionnaires disease and our mutual dislike of OCs. I very much hope to beta read for you again soon, and I aim to be far more organized that I was this time. Ah. The review. The last scene with Alyssa was very sweet, and a nice end to that element of the story. More stories should feature those two, I believe. When I was rereading to write this review I briefly wondered if their attitude towards each other and their young relationship was slightly too mature. However when I considered the things that both characters have had to deal with, and the fact that they’ve had to deal with, it’s reasonable that they’, d have a more mature attitude outlook towards life. I wonder how that relationship would progress. I laughed at Joshua being frightened by Naomi. There’s a mother-in-law you wouldn’t want to piss off… I said right from the word go that I did not like Collins, and I stick by that declaration to the very end. However, I did manage to empathize with him in this final chapter (who knew that could happen?). He’s a very rich man with no friends. I think he really did love Lisa at some point and maybe held on to some distant believe that they’d be together again in the future, and with Lisa dead he’s realized that he has nothing meaningful in his life. That certainly doesn’t make what he did to Joshua forgivable, but I certainly feel sad for him. I must commend you for being able to surprise me with the revelation that Lisa’s father was part of Colins’ motivation to adopt Joshua. I did not see that coming, and I can quite often guess what’s going to happen next. Joshua shows an incredible amount of maturity in not trying to beat Collins to a pulp. That’s what I would have done. I woukd quite like to know the immediate sequence of events that led to Gabe punching Collins. I imagine Gabe has been waiting to land that punch for a number of years. I’m almost certain you’ve mentioned the possibility of a prequel to AOBF. (If I have completely made that up, I do apologise.) If you ever do plan to write a prequel I would most definitely read it! And the last scene. How far we have come since the first scenes of this story, where Joshua and Gabe could barely be in the same room as each other and now they’re going on a road trip to meet the rest of the extended family. Who would have though that could have happened at the start of the story? I must admit to being a sucker for a happy ending. It’s has been one hell of a journey for Joshua and I have very much enjoyed reading it. :) It’s been a blast.. Hope to see more from you soon! -THT |
Canada Cowboy 8/20/12 . chapter 13Well, this is where it all ends, isn't it? The great revelation as to why everything turned out the way they did. Lots to get to, so let's get started. I really like how Josh is brought back to where everything started, with key locations being crucial in the accentuation of the themes. He was brought back to Aly's house, where people he met early in the story are around. Then he was taken to the graveyard, which contains the person who brought about this whole thing in the first place: his mother. Collins appearing is also a nice touch, as it adds depth to the idea that everything has to come full circle. And of course, it's fantastic that the true explanation behind Collins' actions are explained. The one bit I like the most is how you made everything a process, and that it's not a completely happy ending. The quotes you used in the end, where Josh admits that his life with Gabe is still imperfect, sort of wraps up what his entire life is about. Josh went through a down period, and now he's hoping to pick it back up again. I think this is inherently going to affect his growth, and how he'll mature as a person. It also reflects how, in life, we can't think about things in absolutes, and that perfection is nothing but a myth. Good on you for making it so that this theme shows up, as it'll give Josh an incentive to do his best. Overall, I'm very impressed with this fic. This is, as you mentioned, a lot more emotional than your usual ones, and contains a lot more in-depth details and thought processes in character development. The content and its general organization and flow are well done, making the themes that much more prevalent. And of course, your storytelling skills here clearly brought out what I consider to be your best effort by far. I can't wait to see what projects you come up with next. Is there anything that you think you'll focus on for your next story? Once again, a fantastic job, and hope to see you write again soon. I updated Avatar already, so please drop by to catch up on it if you have time. |
Indochine 8/20/12 . chapter 13I'm sad it's over, but the last chapter was just awesome! Thumbs up for everything! For Joshua and Alyssa to finally get together (and I just loved the little allusion to Naomi and Little Guy kissing moment :D), and for Gabriel to be called "Dad", finally! Seriously I like how you ended this story. Well Collins wasn't that despicable in the end. I was expecting an angry Collins for the last chapter, but he was more shameful than anything else, that's probably why Joshua didn't hit him. And OHMYGOD, Gabe punched Collins! YEAAAAAAAAAH, I SO loved it! And the end of the chapter, with Joshua meeting his father's family was the good conclusion. I'm glad that you finished it and I'm glad I could read that story, it was a nice reading moment! ;) Don't hesitate to write one shots or another story in the future, I'll make sure to read it! Get a good rest! See you! ;) |
Orwell is watching-xoxo 8/16/12 . chapter 13Oh my gosh! It's the end?! NoooooO! I came really late into this story, but I still loved it so much. All of the emotions were amazing, and a lot of it left me speechless and craving more. I often times found myself yelling at the screen, or even reaching for a box of tissues. You are an amazing author, as not a lot of us can convey such an intense message as you did with this story. I'm so happy for Josh and Gabe. After all that they went through, they really, really needed this. Looking forward to more from you! :) -Orwell |
blaziebla 8/15/12 . chapter 13 WAAAAH! IT'S OVER! *sniffle sniffle* ... Alas, all good things must come to an end, n'est-ce pas? Nice ending. Somehow it reminded me of Bakuman's ending... Don't ask, I don't know either. I could hear the anime ending themes playing as soon as I saw it was over, though, so I'd say you pulled it off swimmingly. I don't call that sort of ending an American Modernist ending (or whatever it was you called it), I call it an Anime/Manga Style ending! Really, they all end in that style. Probably because many anime/manga end prematurely because of bad rankings. Meh, whatever. It was good, and that's what counts! I look forward to more work from you! D |
SBSam18 8/15/12 . chapter 13...Well done. -Sam |
Orwell is watching-xoxo 8/12/12 . chapter 12Wonderful chapter, Wave! The emotions were riveting, as always. I loved seeing Joshua and Gabe reuniting; they deserved that after all that they have been through. The hug made me smile, it's all so sweet! :) Looking forward to the next chapter, even though the story is ending soon. :( -Orwell |
TCGleek 8/3/12 . chapter 12 This is such an amazing story. I can't remember if I've already reviewed this or not, but I know I've wanted to, and after this chapter... I just have to. This chapter was just so perfect, with everything falling apart and coming together and... I'm speechless. I literally don't know what to say except wow. I've never read a fanfic on this website that I've enjoyed as much as this one. Thank you! Keep writing forever, please? :) |
EmilyAndDixie 6/1/12 . chapter 12Yay! A new and very good chapter! Amazing! ;) |
Indochine 5/31/12 . chapter 12You know what? I was reading some old Trauma Team stories yesterday, and that's when I thought, "Oh man, it's been a while since I read 'An Old blue Fish', I hope the author will update soon," and then I go back to the fandom with the newest updates and what do I see? Chapter 12! AWESOME! So, it was a beautiful chapter! I knew it, Collins was such a bastard, but I wonder if he really did this for money... Even if he's greedy, I don't think he would be able to fake that good his feelings about Joshua. I wonder if there is something else behind all this! Maybe we'll have a breakdown of Doctor Collins next chapter! Hey, how about a Gabe x Collins fight? :D :D :D And Gabe, being an old soldier, will win it, or Hank and Tomoe, and Maria and maybe CR-S01 will come and beat the shit out of him! That would be so cool! :D :D Thumbs up for Sheila! Hope she won't get in trouble for what she did! :/ The part where Joshua found Gabe again is awesome! :D And so beautiful, Gabriel is becoming a good man! :) I just loved the part when he told Josh he had bought a house near the ocean! T_T so nice! And Fishy! XD Fishy is definitely bound to be a part of the Cunningham family! (by the way did you notice that in Cunningham there was "Cunning", I noticed recently, a few months ago, I was like O_O) I am definitely awaiting the next chapter, hope you'll update soon! I want to see Collins die or go back to Hope Hospital (well in fact no I don't because there are still maybe Dr Kasal and Myers at Hope and I don't want them to be with Collins again!) Update soon, pretty please! See you! Ps: do you know when ThT will update her awesome story about Alyssa's past? It's been a while! |
Canada Cowboy 5/29/12 . chapter 12Wow, another twist. So Collins isn't taking Josh in out of the goodness of his heart. Instead of showing Josh that he can be a better father than Gabe, Collins does it to get the money? This is something I totally didn't expect! You know, the entire atmosphere is really good in the sense that you created something that we really followed along to. You mentioned that this was one scene you really wanted to write, and I can see how much effort you put into it. It really left an impact in us on how much this relationship has taken a strain on Josh, and how confused he really is. I think this part has really put the story over the top, allowing you to reach the next level in your writing. The scene I want to comment on the most is the reconciliation scene, where Gabe starts telling Josh how much he gave up just to regain Josh's trust and respect. I see the "old blue fish" returning as a theme, with Josh having it at the beginning, and then losing it when he moved into Collins' place. But now that he's moving back in with Gabe, he has it again. I think this is symbolic of Josh's relationship with Gabe, to the point that it's like the bond between them. This is really well done. One (or two) more chapters left, and I can't wait to see what happens. I still want to see Gabe in a scene where he explains to Josh in full detail as to why he left. While I can see the notion of not wanting a child or being terrible with words come into play, I want to hear it from Gabe as to why he left. As well, I want to see the deal between Collins and Josh's grandfather. There are issues there that I want to see dealt with, just to see each person's motives with that will. Other than that, great writing. Keep it up, and hope you can drop by my story soon. |
