Quite a nice idea that Harry was capable of letting herself go in front of the CID crowd - suppose she knows the chances of working with them again are slim. Plus, she's on her own territory where she feels most comfortable.
You describe the scene inside the marquee really well - I could feel the heat and hear the blasting music, everybody shiny and laughing.
... It didn't take long to spot the tall silhouette of Dempsey, cigar plumes rising from him...very nice image.
So my mind was in a tizz wonering why Dempsey 'wasn't in the mood for smoochin' ', even when it's Harry asking. Is it just that he's too hot or (getting a bit carried away here) is the wedding making him start to wonder where his own life is going? Forty something years old, no wife, no kids and no steady girlfriend. I imagined him looking over that balustrade thinking some pretty deep thoughts.
Liked the plastic flowers thing - Harry clearly remembering and Dempsey quite clearly not lol
The Tango was unexpected and quite comical, given that Dempsey was taking it so seriously.
#ThePottingShedShag To be honest, phrases like 'taking a gamble which, he hoped to God, would pay off', 'Dempsey saw his chance' and 'Dempsey felt her soften into him which sent a green light to his brain... she wanted this.' kind of made me wonder if this was just ladies man Dempsey fullflling his ambition of getting into Lady Harriet's knickers? Yes the 'dirty sex' was good - rough and ready - probably the sort of thing he's got up to on many occasions and Harry certainly enjoyed herself but 'I' wanted their first time to be romantic, simply because it's been such a long time coming.
Haveunotthought mentioned that some dialogue as a run up would've been good. I don't necessarily think dialogue was needed because it was a raw, hungry moment in a thunder storm but it would've been nice to hear Dempsey' inner thoughts rather than the surface base instincts. And yes, I know I'm just being overprotective of our characters lol
The bedroom scene was great and I think I would've prefered this to be their first time together before the #ThePottingShedShag. We know he 'cares' by the way he's holding her as she sleeps but I want to hear his feelings, that it was all more than just hot sex with a hot woman. I want to know that Harry is 'the one'and hopefully we'll get that conversation or something approximating it in the morning.
...Then the noise started, the rhythmic knock of wood on wall. Who'd have thought that a sturdy oak four poster bed would make so much noise...this was ruddy hilarious, and then the 'picking up pace' bit! Loved hearing events from Alex and Gene's pov and it was incredibly sexy. I actually think this was way sexier than the shed - a real voyeuristic piece that worked perfectly.
Pleeeeeease QQ, tell me that he loves her or at least that he 'cares' deeply.
You can also tell me I'm a complete and utter obsessed fruitcake lol

"Oh come on spoilsport." Due to the alcohol she was feeling brave. "It's a slow dance." She was trying to tug him away from the balustrade.
"Don't care, I'm not in the mood for smoochin'" he smiled teasingly, resisting her pull "I don't know why people go in for that crap anyways."
"Because it's romantic! Oh, but hard-man lieutenant Dempsey doesn't know the meaning of the word." She teased back. "Passion and romance don't exist in his world, silly me." She sang tipsily. - Brill bit of flirty banter! This so reminds me of Tequila Sunrise. :-)
So they have a dance...
And off to the potting shed they go... ;-)

'Harry hitched up her dress and sashayed down the corridor to Dempsey's room, as she was about to knock when Dempsey opened the door.He stood there with his mouth open looking her up and down appreciatively "Wow! You look beautiful." He managed to stutter.'
'Harry stood there equally taken aback. Dempsey was wearing a tailored suit which, of course fitted him perfectly, his tie tied in a very neat knot, his hair short and precisely slicked into place..he had made a huge effort. "You don't look so bad yourself." She replied coyly, drinking in every small detail about his appearance, God he was handsome, she would even go as far as to say 'hot'. Ha! Love that bit! Hot indeed!
Glad the day went smoothly and without a hitch. Enjoyed the way Dempsey & Makepeace paid each others compliments. Now it's time to party...
I liked the parallel with the storm echoing the build up and release.

The passionate dance was a good idea but probably I would have liked to read more building up the tension even if via the storm
really hopeful line: The rain started to pelt down in big weighty drops, landing on their faces and running down their cheeks, they both looked up as the heavens opened and more lightening cracked open the clouds.
"In here?" Harry questioned, thinking that her partner may have lost his marbles. Another bolt of lightning lit up the shed. Dempsey saw his chance, he shut the door forcefully, scooped up Harry in his arms and clamped his lips to hers. Harry squealed in surprised, she hadn't expected that. She planted both hands on his chest in an attempt to push him away, but Dempsey held her firm, he had seen the need in her eyes and he wasn't going to let her dance around the issue anymore. Harry's resistance was waning, she couldn't fight her feelings anymore, she couldn't keep fighting him! The sensation of him kissing her was sending electric bolts through her body, overwhelming and overruling her head, all fight left her body. Her palmed hands against his chest relaxed and her fingers curled around his sodden shirt pulling him closer to her as she returned his kiss. I know this is all driven by passion and I don't want them to stop for a whole passion killer conversation. I guess I wanted a few more lines in the middle of all of this, maybe echoing back to TS and how he said next time you might not be so lucky, maybe her saying at some point that giving in to him was always going to be inevitable, so now was a good a time as any?
I think the rest moved a bit fast for me; I would have settled for a passionate kissing and feeling session and a drag back to the bed room
however With each protest from the bench, shivers swept across her body, tingling every nerve ending.was a very good line
The practicalities of picking up the evidence after was a bit of a passion killer - could be glossed over or ditched I think

She moved closer to him "Your turn." She purred, proceeding to undress him. Dempsey couldn't wipe the smile off his face, his fantasy had come true. Once divested of all clothing, Dempsey pulled Harry to him and they fell on the bed together in a laughing heap. "You're beautiful." He murmured as he kissed his way down her body, Harry watching him cover every inch.
"All quiet now." said Alex
"Hmmph" said Gene.

"I am." He growled "Trouble is, listening to those two going at it, it's giving me the right horn."
"And since when, Mr Hunt, did you see that as a problem?" Alex grinned in the dark.
Gene looked up from his pillow "What am I saying? Come here woman." Gene rolled over to Alex's side of the bed to claim his marital rights.

My favourite sort of cheesecake is actually what you did with the cheesecake, I like the flirting and the signals, the teasing and tempting - hope now there is Demparry we get to see them doing that - looking forward to the next chapter and part 3 of whole story
I liked the contrast of the women up early, and that Harry had some sense of the future and most of the men drunk on leroys floor, not so sure that I half thought Dempsey would be there

Gene wasn't as soppy enough as to admit to things such as love, but he would agree that Alex was the best thing that had happened to him and today was his demonstration of that.

Finally they did it :-)! Without unnecessary words they just let their passion take over! Loved the haste and craziness of the whole situation. The perfect culmination of a long time of suppressing their true feelings. Funny how Gene & Alex, on hearing what they heard, just had to know exactly what was going on ;-)
Great descriptions of the last preparations on G&A’s wedding day. Liked Harry sharing the sort of feeling Alex had , how everything seemed to be in place - “A sensation of De ja vu maybe, or just an underlying sense of destiny which had brought this random collection of people together for this day.”
So nice that the wedding ceremony went as planned with no surprises. Now I hope that it is really gonna be “one helluva party." #ch30cheesecake ;-)
I really enjoyed this chapter. It’s great how you make Harry and Alex get along with each other so well. The whole idea of having the wedding ceremony and the party in the countryside is brilliant.
Great idea to have Alex feel familiar with the Winfield Hall surroundings. Loved it how she started to recall her school trip to WH bit by bit. It is so typical of her to go through her memories like that and say her thoughts aloud, which usually makes no sense to the listener :-) Classic!
Liked both teams cooperating so smoothly together and getting results :-) Plus, nice to see Dempsey recovered and back in action again.
Great scene at Luigi’s, with everyone so relaxed and casual, joking and discussing the upcoming wedding event. Yet, Harry is still on guard, showing her constant concern about Dempsey’s condition. Hope she is going to get more relaxed soon :-)
Loved Dempsey and Leroy getting pissed and their talk interrupted by drunken hiccups was so funny.
Love this chapter! The un-cuffing didn’t go exactly as I imagined it would but the whole scene was awww ... so sweet. Anyway, the more the #cheesecake part is being delayed, the greater my expectations become ;-)
