Reviews for: The Epic Adventures of Lan
Tobias Allen the 3rd 10/17/11 . chapter 1
A beautiful adaptation of Orwell's classic for a modern world dominated by multi-national corporations. The story is modernized in a way that grows the theme of oppression by the ruling organization, while adding whimsical pop culture references. The author also managed to do something that Orwell could not, make a story about the repression of individuality into a comedy. The name tag swapping is a hilarious gag that also points to the stupidity of the system in a way that is more reminiscent of Joseph Heller than Orwell. I also liked the way that Lan's you-tube generation mind so easily surrenders another person to torture. This story portrays our society as fallen even farther than Oceania, but instead of being suppressed by big government and double speak, we are being oppressed by pop-culture and big business. Great story.
