You do know that even the worst of viruses does not require a new laptop to be purchsed. All the software (including OS) may need to be restored and all your files may be completely trashed (or even published on a network). Providing you have a decent backup of your system, however, you really loose nothing (unless there is a dormant version of the virus on your backup).
