This seems interesting! You portray Mello extremely well...I haven't watched the anime since 4 years and I don't remember how did Mello actually get recovered after the explosion...or maybe it wasn't even showed in the anime.

Anyway your story seems nice so far and I don't know about humor but you are definitely good at writing angst. Oh, and is this going to be yaoui(or however that is written) or just friendship?
