This was good, in that it's really well written and I could follow the breaks in reality and the parallels easily enough, but it's not just a darker version of Kate, I found her drowning in her own guilt to be a little hard to take. Particularly in the beginning, the concept of blaming herself for Castle leaving. I don't 100% blame Castle either, it was just bad timing, but it was a moment that certainly hurt her more than it hurt him. And once again I feel I should point out (I want to scream it from fandom rooftops) that Castle didn't try to jump in front of the sniper's bullet. I'm not saying that he wouldn't have. I'm not saying that given the choice he wouldn't give up his life for her without hesitation, I'm just saying that in this case - as in 'Always Buy Retail' and 'A Deadly Affair' - Castle pulls her down. Nothing more than that. If you watch that scene a couple of time you'll see he collides with her side, an arm around her torso, pulling her to the ground. He wasn't trying to shield her, he was just trying to get her down. Anyway. It's still an awesome story. Full of angst and dark passion and I don't actually think it was unrealistic to have Beckett in that state. I think given the right set of circumstances she would be right there. I personally want Beckett to be supported by Castle in her quest to take down the Dragon - I feel this is something they have to do together, as partners, since he is the Scully to her Mulder (which is funny since she's the technically minded, practical one) - but I understand that's not a popular opinion in this fandom.

Gorgeously written and very truthful. It's tragic that no matter the reality we find them there - Kate, shot, and Castle trying to save her.

I just found your story via Tumblr and decided to read it :)

First of all: I really liked the idea of this story and how you had these two parallel realities which seemed to lead to completely different outcomes, but ultimately really didn't. Also your way of writing is awesome. I wish I could write like that xD

There were two things that didn't appear logical, though. Well one was an actual mistake, I guess.

In your story Beckett confronts Hal Lockwood as her mother's killer and he admits to it. But actually Dick Coonan was the contract killer who stabbed her mother. After she had killed him, she didn't have any clues about the other people who were behind her mother's murder until Raglan decided to talk. It was only THEN that the people who are behind this whole cover-up thing decided to hire Lockwood. So he "only" shot Raglan.

And the second thing I wondered about is: Why didn't Lockwood just kill Beckett right away after Castle had saved her (temporarily)? I mean why does he shoot at Castle and KIDNAP him instead of just killing Beckett on the spot? It just didn't make much sense to me.

But apart from these two things, I really loved your story. I enjoyed reading it a lot and it was definitely thrilling, because in that alternate reality everything could happen. :D

I thought this was inspired. I LOVED the alternative parallel. I think it definitely could have happened that way, without problem. I adored your juxtaposition and the entire thing gave me chills.

This was beautifully written. The concept is amazing, and your execution of it is really superb. I can see why you'd be nervous about it, but you shouldn't be. It's fantastic. I think the stream of consciousness is really cool and really well thought out.

I just adored this. It's an instant favorite. Brava, my dear. This is wonderful.
