Loki fan 5/24/12 . chapter 21
This was absolutely amazing! I loved your/Loki's humor, as well as the bonding stories between all three main characters. And what a brilliant idea to make Loki a Jotun from the start! Again, awesome story, plot line, and writing style. I look forward to reading more stories (or one shots) about Loki and Sif (written by you of course)! :D *fingers crossed*
My heart leaped when I came to from archiveofourown and saw 21 chapters. Unfortunately it turned out that it didn't mean you had posted more on :( I actually only got into this fandom today and spent literally all day reading fanfiction, and this one is so fantastically fantastic I can't even start counting the thing I love about it! I'm bad at collecting my thoughts, so just accept this senseless review as a token of my gratitude :) I hope I can read some more soon! I can't wait to see what happens next and how you choose to play out the entire story.
Anonymous 5/17/12 . chapter 1
Dearie, please finish this story! I'd thought it was finished and then! BOOM! I get to the last chapter and it' it's just not done! Gah, if you don't find it to be too much trouble, I think it'd be wonderful to see the finished product. :)
This is so beautiful, really. I just... I was awwwwing the whole time, it was quite embarrasing actually but it was worth it. I love your fic. Please update soon.
This is brilliant. I love the way you write everyone, keeping them in character but different at the same time. Loki's life as a Jotun is credible, Sif's backstory explains a lot about her character, and Thor is spot on, and doesn't steal the spotlight.
Drat... I'm trying to think of a good review, but everything has already been said! I've only recently gotten into this fandom, and was looking for a great Loki-oriented fanfic... and let me just say, I was NOT disappointed by this story. What's not to like?
The impeccable characterization of everyone, despite the story's AU status; Sif's intense desire to prove herself, Loki's well-hidden insecurity, and Thor's boisterous honesty, along with so many other intriguing facets of their personalities. The minor characters: from stern Odin to compassionate Frigg, from mysterious Laufrey to watchful Heimdall, from the glimpses of the other Warriors of Asgard to the intriguing and complex Skadi, and everyone else that I forgot to mention. The vivid prose, and the unique voices of each of the characters, all with a lovely medieval flair. The writing itself.
The slow, complex development of Sif and Loki's relationship. The jealousy-warring-with-fondness that Loki feels for Thor, and Thor's puppyish charm and obliviousness to it. The occasional reminder of Loki's blue skin, red eyes and adornments (a stroke of genius in and of themselves) - usually right when I've stopped thinking about his Jötunn-ness, and so can be reminded just how gosh darned PRETTY he is. The fact that Sif likes him just the way he is, differences and all - I'm always a sucker for that. The fact that Loki is slowly, slooooowly, opening up to her, and that Sif knows how to read him. The distance they have to display in front of other people.
The intriguing Jötunn culture, up to and including the lingering feelings of hostility between them and the Asgardians. The hint of politics beneath it all (which I'd love to see more of!), and the obvious difficulties facing Sif and Loki's relationship. The fact that the Jötunn invented icecream (which made me go get some, naturally, in addition to cranking up the air conditioning). The big fluffy polar bears. The dwarves, their magnificent weapons, and the glimpses of a larger war. The occasional glimpses of Loki's magic, and the insight into how it works - complete with references to the mathematics behind it all. Sif's broadening insight into how complex the world really is. The hints that others know more than they're letting on. The references to wider Norse mythology.
Also, and this is a bit random: I love how Frigg seems perfectly accepting of Loki. It's a nice nod to the fact that she was almost his mother. Am I wrong in thinking that she'll play some part in Sif and Loki finding acceptance? ...And whatever will Sif's FATHER think of him? Lord, I hope Loki's not foolish enough to think that hiding will actually work...
I don't often leave reviews... but when I do, it's for stories I love. And they're usually long. :D Apologies!
To summarize: I love pretty much everything about this story, and eagerly await your next update. The depth and subtext within your writing is awesome. I can't wait to see how things unfold!
gorgeous. a fascinating look at a might-have-been world, and yet the characters were still quite recognizably themselves. loved it with a passion. thank you for writing it. :)
OMG 5/4/12 . chapter 21
BRILLIANT! That was absolutely brilliant! I can't wait for the next chapter! :)
I am in love with this world you've created! You write relationships so well, with the slow development in Loki and Thor, and Loki and Sif's regard of each other. I also enjoyed Thor and Sif's interactions. It really is a great "what if" story and one of the best stories in this fandom. They are all perfectly in character.
I really liked your rendition of how Thor and Sif received their weapons.
And this! "Sif ignored him until he silently slid her his serving of flavored ice, at which point she decided, magnanimously, to forgive him." This is such a cute picture!
This is a unique, clever, delightful story. Sif and Loki's relationship feels warm and natural, and the characters - they as well as Thor - feel very real as well as true to what we see in the film. Beyond that, I really like the small seeds you're planting regarding social injustices and Sif's slow realisation of how narrow her view of the world is. The small details about jotunn culture that you've shown so far are intriguing, and the joyride to Midgard (what century was this meant to be, might I ask?) was great fun. I hope to see the next chapter soon. Thank you!
