This is hilarious and though I'm a Star Wars shipper of Anakin/Obi-Wan and Obi-Wan/Qui-Gon, I recognize some of these categories as sliding over into the GFFA. Very funny and analytical, too.

Having only recently discovered the world of online Ghostbusters fandom, I have already skimmed enough angst-ridden fan fiction stories (yes, Shiela Paulson, I'm talking about you) to know that this hilarious essay is right on the money. The Boy Scout handbook passage, while amusing, goes on too long, and the ending may not be quite strong enough, but otherwise this piece is well-nigh perfect. Especially amusing is the way many of the specific points are actually contradicted in canon - for example, in the second movie Egon frequently smiles and actually laughs once or twice... (And how about Ray cooking the turkey in "Citizen Ghost"?)

Ha! Clever, funny, and very accurate. I especially liked the Characterization section. I've always found it odd how so many authors prefer to mention the guys by their professions and hair colors rather than their actual names.

Oh, this is priceless! I love how you've used simple, "how-to" sentences to show up every single cliche in RGB fanfic that I know of, and a few I hadn't even noticed were actually cliches till you pointed them out! (Man, how sad is that, not to realise that Ray saying "Gosh" is in every fic and its cousin?)

I've read Egon & Ray slash stuff so your Egon/peter thingy is not right. I've also read one or two fanfics that put Egon & Kylie in bed together. Although I think in the animated series both janine & Kylie had a thing for Egon he didn't know, didn't care & didn't want either of them. I like some of the slashy stuff about the Ghostbusters but wish they'd do something putting Kylie Griffin & Janine Melnitz together. I wonder why somebody didn't put Kylie & Janine together in a slash as it's been done with Batgirl/Catwoman & other cartoon vixens. So do SLASH PUTTING THE GHOSTBUSTER GAL's IN BED TOGETHER
