That was sweet. Suitably nerve-wracking, but the bitter sweet end worked.
That said, there is one problem. You keep wondering whether or not he can be classed as a 'person'.
Now, I grant you, he isn't _human_, but using 'humanity' as a prerequisite for 'person-hood' is not the best of ideas.
Star Trek wouldn't work at all if that were the case, and the Empire of Star Wars tried that and came off as distinctly Nazi-ish.
And it seems quite clear to me that Mercer is a person. After all, how many beasts do you know of that are capable of experiencing existential angst?

I stumbled across your fic after playing Prototype on a whim...please tell me you're going to finish this? The characterization is beyond amazing...and after reading up on Prototype 2 I don't think I want to play it. :P

Okay so I haven't written a review for a loooong time but I love this fic so much I just have to. It's well written, the characters seem to be in character (to me at least) and I also couldn't agree more with you on Prototype 2.

I would like to thank you for writing this fanfic. It shows Alex's character in a very pure way- he might not be a human, but he tries his best to be a decent sentient lump of infectious biomass. I'm a sucker for well written characters, and you have drawn me in with the story. It's refreshing to see him look at ordinary things as alien, and odd things as normal. Too many people try to characterize him as a human with some crazy superpowers, but this is precisely what he isn't.

I wish you luck on continuing the story, and hope things continue to go more smoothly in your life.

Glad to see you updated I once again will say that your writing is better than the canon.
I truly love the way you portray such a complex character as Alex Mercer(I'll not mention a certain shitty sequel that never happened). And so Alex is starting to resist Pariah and Alex working with Cross is always interesting I really love the banter you crafted between them.
Keep up the good work and while I did missed Dana's presence in this chapter I'm sure you'll portray her beautifully as you always have. Excellent work

First of all- welcome back! Sorry to hear about everything that has happened in the past few weeks, and hope that things get better.

That whole part with the tank-jacking was hilarious, and the interactions between the Wisemen team and Mercer were... well, interesting, I guess. I liked the fact that they're warming up to each other, and how Detwiller in particular is confused as to why a complete monster like ZEUS would save his life. Definitely looking forward to more interactions between the two, just because the contrast between what the Wisemen think of Mercer and how Mercer really is is a favorite of mine.

Looks like shit's going to go down. We've got the introduction of long ranged mindfuck, an incredibly exhausted Mercer, and the return of Pariah, all in a relatively short amount of time. This is definitely not going to go well for our viral protagonist. Awesome cliffhanger though- definitely succeeded in making me squirm.

I am very sorry to hear about your tragedy in real life. In 2010, in that one year, I lost my Grandmother, were forced to put my 14-years old cat to eternal sleep, looked out for my father after operation and in the end because of all this I dropped out of University. Twice repeating one year was unpleasant. Hope everything would be okay with you and your family now.

First of all. Alex trolling Cross. Pure win and funny as hell. After two last chapters Alex deserves some entertainment.
In both P games there were four WTF moments for me – why in P1 Alex wasn’t able to let go grabbed by mistake person, what got Alex so angry during pursuit for Taggart, how Alex singlehandly can drive tank (I really like your version on this) and why nearly in end of P2 Heller like dumb rock tried to crush most armored part of building – that massive metallic gate? What Heller mass, anyway? One ton, half of it. He can just speed on rooftops, jump and crush window or maybe even wall with turned on Hummerfists on some random floor. That mission was top of idiotism in entire P2.
Actually, about P2. I think it’s time to upgrade Alex a bit. Situation looks a like quite a bit. Heller absorbed already existing mutations from creatures that were from the same strain of virus that Heller was composed himself. In P1, Alex, except claws, upgraded himself from beginning by artificially releasing his own earlier sleeping genes. Now that new Infected were made partially from Blacklight, Alex can began easily update himself or pick-up something new.
O, it’s quite enough. Let’s not talk about P2, my mood began dropping.
You know about Hivemind. I adore you for the fact that you not forget – it’s not Infected vision, it looking in Hivemind and seeing the response “Yes, that creature in tune with Hivemind, that means it’s infected”.
How Alex could possibly resist to Hivemind? Well, Alex still made from superior strain of virus; can he somehow put that into reaction? That his strain of Blacklight superior and don’t want to become “family” with something weaker than him?
Fun fact about strains of virus. Somewhere in game in recent playthrough of P1 I distinctly heard that: people in Hope were infected by Redlight virus, but outbreak didn’t happen. Then virus tried to accomplish something in Children of Hope, but ultimately failed. Until Green were found. In her new type of virus were found, scientists called it Blacklight, so doctor Alexander Mercer not created Blacklight from Redlight, he created new, much more deadly and adaptive strain of Blacklight. That means that Green, Pariah, Walkers, Hunters and others - they all made by Blacklight. It’s all was somewhere in WOI.
