I figure Ishiah would be understanding concerning Lomans stories lol

Just what I needed after studying for my history exam! Don't worry Cal, I wouldn't be a very successful war general either. And I hate dates and whatnot too. Possibly the funniest part is Ishiah not interfering with Niko's teaching time. Even if it does give the customers a break from Cal, does Ishiah really need a sneaky, strategizing Cal to deal with?

Anyway, very funny and cute! Promise was rather frisky in Slashback wasn't she? Silly Cal, you should realize Niko would know you were there.

So anyway, of course Niko just knows how to ride and understands kelpie body language. A surprisingly cute chapter! I like the idea of a reformed kelpie with a sense of humor. Cal's comments were also entertaining, of course. Single-hoofedness had me giggling. And sometimes I wish horses had a parking break :)

Oh that last line. Only a child and Niko is already prepared to go to any length to keep the monsters from taking Cal.

Also, I like the short length. It's a nice change. Not exactly short and sweet considering what's happening, but sweet in that it is complete within its few paragraphs.

Oooh, just a few words, but powerful. I love how he's humming, blocking out the noise, doing everything possible to keep Cal oblivious. And that last line... wow. Great job!

First, I'm sorry about all the drama! How kind of you to post a chapter in the midst of it, and one so well written too.

Other fics I've read from Niko's POV while Cal is gone, not that I didn't enjoy them or anything, all seem to have Niko just plop down and sit there waiting. That is also what Rob seems to imply, but I find it unlikely. Your version is not only more interesting, but it shows Niko as a little younger and more insecure. It gives him some room to grow into the Niko we know.

Jeez...talk about emotional! I like that you show that there was a time, however brief, that Sophia was something other than a drunken whore who hated and despised her children...and that Niko recognized that. So sad all around. Great job portraying his feelings...the ER seems to be inpsiring the emotinal plot bunnies in you! :)

Very beautifully written. I like the cute but sad reference to "Blue Velvet" - having read that fic by you, I can appreciate this a lot more. Still, I feel that Niko was a bit too preoccupied with Sophia here, given the circumstances. Throughout the books, every time something's happened to Cal, Niko has pretty much lost all thought or care for anything else. While I would definitely imagine him being traumatized by Sophia's corpse, I don't know that he would spend so much time thinking about her, and mourning for her. I think the absence of Cal would just eclipse everything else, including Sophia. But, that's just my opinion :) Thanks for the update!

Seriously. Completely enamored. I love fics exploring the boys' childhood in more detail than we see in the books, and this description of Niko and how much he simply adores Cal... I love. I just love, so much.
