I was smiling along, and then - yikes! Kind of like the second act of Into the Woods when people start dying...

This was really good. I'm glad Hiccup and Astrid made up. But that poor dragon! PLEASE don't let it be Toothless! I will never be happy again if Toothless dies.

Goodness, I had no idea you had updated this thing! Honestly, this may be my favorite chapter yet just because you so well nailed the relationship of awkwardness between Hiccup and Stoick. Oh, those awkward moments indeed. Hiccup realizes it as well, and I think it's a good look at his own reluctance to bond with his dad; even at the end of the movie he still had this personality like things still weren't peachy keen with Stoick and I think that's for the best. They are so very different. But that is what makes for a potentially enteratining relationship. Stoick's advice was magnificently useless and it makes me wonder when your headcanon decided to put him as the soul guardian of Hiccup. Best thing about this chapter also is that it straight out asked a question pertaining to one of Hiccup's faults: he is something of a whiney teenage brat and I think he's starting to realize that his nature of tending to feel sorry for himself isn't always going to work!

This section seemed to rely on conversation, but I did like the dialogue; I want to suggest that a little more description here would give this chapter a great feel. You had some nice starts to it. But the dialogue itself was extremely good and very in character. I get the impression Stoick left from the movie with his sad attempts to engage his son in conversation. It was funny and heartbreakingly pathetic all at the same time. The nature of the mystery of women was a great thing to bring up and I like where it went, dancing around the subject at hand. Wonderful. Well, I look forward to more! I like how character-focused this fic is.

This was a solid chapter. It was altogether quite funny all the way through, yet you are still doing a fine job of exploring Hiccup's personality. Hiccup's baser needs were a nice choice to discuss and I love the concept of Ruffnut wanting to be a healer. It doesn't seem right, and yet you later back it up with Astrid's testimonial. The focus on the nature of his broken leg is nice as well... the lack of splicing, the possibility of the bone shifting. Astrid was in character with a touch of that fiery temper and that almost laughable need to prove herself by doing all the processes of creating a pie for her boyfriend. I'm guessing Hiccup is feeling kind of sorry for himself at this point, a little sensitive? Can't say I blame him, what with being forced to humiliate himself, unable to care for himself very much, and no one being there when he needs them.

And here I arrive at the latest chapter. The awkwardness between Stoick and his son is handled well. The way the conversation is "progressing " was showed nicely. They can't talk to each other and I doubt it would change in any way in the future. Stoick attempted to crack a joke, he is trying...in his own way and try to give a fatherly advice... in his own way.

It was a nice bonding moment, for two Vikings that is.
