You did an exceptional job in mangaing Kenshin's internal voice, eloquent but not too flamboyantly passionate.

kaoru in the manga was foolish enough to have gohei's brother stay with her... one would think her too naive and gullible to almost be self destructive. at least with kenshin she made fortuitous choice.

this was quite the retelling, one can almost sense the thoughts and emotions you describe while thinking on the scenes these are based and in between.

This is a tremendous work that manages to remain faithful to characterization. I also think it effectively expands the feel of the first episode, and of hinting at a close, somewhat understated relationship between Kaoru and Kenshin. Well done.

I loved this little fic. You totally addressed the questions I had when I watched the series. I always thought that there was a part of Kaoru we were not getting completely. Interesting how the story leaves a rather vital part of her background out, considering that would be important to shaping her character. I saw this happen as well in the manga. Most of the time I think the story do not do justice to Kaoru as a character because of this. Kenshin, Sanosuke, Yahiko, Megumi, Aoshi, and Misao all have their history revealed in some way, yet we know very little about Kaoru's history and what would lead her to do the things she does. I think you gave a very believable background for her. And I am never against reading about Kenshin's reactions. )

Honestly I love the whole idea kenshin is so quite sometimes you could do things like this for practically the whole thing all the way through also they live together so there would have had to be some kind of embarrasing moment betwwen the two that isn't shown and sooner or later you would think that one of them would let something slip about liking the other during just normal conversation and I love the way you are doing this because I think that kenshin would almost undoubtabley be mad or try and stop himself from liking her no matter how impossible I think it would be great if you continued the whole thing past the first series because they really only develop the characters when there is danger or battles i have yet to see an episode were everything was just all hunky dory the whole way through and kenshin can't fight every day of his life. okay so that's all for now bye-bye:p

Hey, nice piece of work, I like the way you filled in those little gaps in the timeline of the first episode (And damnit, yer giving me ideas! Well... admittedly I've been having ideas since I decided to start watching through the first two seasons of the anime in raw Japanese. Amazing what you notice when yer not distracted by subtitles and the dialogue is just at the edge of understanding.) Keep up the good work )
