Simply beautiful, nothing overdone. My fave scene was Rilla and Ken's kiss and realisation of their love for each other. Keep up the excellent work. Looking forward to Chapter 10 :)

I really like the paragraph about how frustrating one's feelings can be. "It has to be from the heart. I have no clever scientific basis, but I have myself to vouch for it. ... My thoughts just seem to have a will of their own." The whole paragraph is just so good. Very well written. I really love it. You really got me into Rilla's head and into her feelings.

I love this line, too: "That smile said everything her lips did not."

Great chapter. You continue to nicely develop the characters and their relationships.

I love Rilla's stroll down the lane, her ruminations, and her meeting with Tom. What a spunky girl Rilla is, but she has insecurities, too and you show both very well throughout this chapter.

Oh so wonderful. Rilla is coming to realize just how deep her feelings are for Ken. I like how you've shown us that slow awareness from both sides - Rilla's and Ken's.

I'm actually glad I haven't read the books so this is like an original novel to me. I have no idea what awaits Ken when he goes off to war. I'm dreading it and looking forward to it at the same time.

So, Ken was able to enlist. Oh, what will the future hold for him? And I dare say he was dreaming of Rilla there at the end.

The heartache of war, the uncertainty of what's to come, is palpable in this chapter. You truly made me feel for the young men leaving, their families and friends.
