My heart broke for Esme. She was so young and tried her best to capture Edward. I guess in the end he was really focus in what he wanted and it sadly wasn't her. I would love to have know how he really felt when he found out of Esme passing and finding out about Edward the way he did. Oh well I guess I'll just picture him thinking about Esme and what had become of her after she left Chicago. Thanks for sharing this beautiful story.

Poor Esme. What a horrible situation to end up in because of some choices soaked in alcohol. I'm going to have to go back to Offside to see what Edward Masen said about how he eventually found out Esme had a baby that he fathered. My heart hurts for them all and I wish Esme could have been more honest about why she traveled to Chicago to see him. Thanks for sharing this with us, love!

Hmmm, sad sigh! This is so very sad in so many ways! That desperation that Esme feels and the confused young man, unsure of what has drawn this (random) woman to him! And of course, as you have written, it is not the end but the beginning of a very sad story! Well, I do like that the background is spelled out here, and I sure feel sorry for Esme, for all the reasons that are written here and for her grief and loss in her marriage to the rigid man who is Carlisle Cullen! ;)

You can see how Carlisle would get all twisted over Edward Jr… I wonder if it developed after the circumstances of her death and the revelation at Esme's funeral, or if it was always there subconsciously and her dying was the trigger for it to surface?
