A quick bit of explaining: This fic was not intended to belittle Marius' intelligence, such as it is, but to play on the boy's disorientation after the Gorbeau incident in order to tie it into the translation mentioned prior to the beginning of the story itself. Nor was it intended to portray him as a lovesick fool; his confusion as to Cosette's name is canonical.

And face it, if you had just spent several hours crouching in a garret with your hand on a pistol and your eyes glued to a hole in the wall, through which you happened to witness the capture and interrogation of your lady love's father by your destitute neighbor who just so happened to be the chap whom, due to the deathbed wishes of your father, you happened to be obligated to honor, consequently throwing you into a moral quandary, which, after it's culmination, you prudently vacated the crime scene and headed to a friend's house, still shaky after the aforementioned incidents and still in need of some sort of explanation to give your friend, you might be a tad flustered too.

Can you fanfic writers quit ragging on Marius for a change? The first five million "Marius is a lovesick dolt" jokes were funny. Now they are just becoming tedious
