Reviews for Russian Doll
Matthew White 6/17/13 . chapter 1
I have to admit, I'm a spy Gilligan fan too. But I LOVE spy Mary Ann! O, la, la!

This story is great; it could have been a full length movie. MAG as well as alter ego MAG. It doesn't get any better than that.

I liked the contrasting interaction between Mary Ann and her double, an aspect which really flesed this story out.

Great work!
zafnak 9/29/12 . chapter 23
"I am called Boris," he said, turning her head into his shoulder so that she wouldn't have to look at the shark. "Boris Alexandrovich."

"Nadyenka Yaroslavna," 223 whispered, her voice muffled against his neck.

What? With a name like Boris I thought she'd be named Natasha...
WriterGirl719 7/25/12 . chapter 23
This a great story. I really enjoyed it. I liked how the castaways and spies ended up almost, kind of liking each other, and I love the ending in Ecuarico. Fantastic!
WriterGirl719 7/25/12 . chapter 1
LoL. Five seconds after meeting, and Evil!Gilligan falls for Evil!Mary Ann. I love it.
Louise Hargadon 4/26/12 . chapter 2
Honestly, the more I read of the Commandant the more I'm convinced that he's Russian Skipper. Pulling at his collar, sweating like a schoolboy, looking at Mary Ann's legs! It's all there! He doesn't hit Agent 222 with his hat, does he?

I love the fact Agent 222 muscled in by virtue of the fact he knows the island and his advice will be invaluable. Ha! In your FACE, Commandant! Agent 222 ISN'T an idiot! He knows this island like the palm of his hand!

Does Mary Ann sleep? She's always awake before everyone and has cooked like a twelve course breakfast for them all. "Like Serbius, she guards the gates of hell 24 hours a day!" And bakes!

I love the mealtime scenes around the table. I love them in the show and I love the way you write them. It's a real sense of family and belonging and real affection between everyone. Not just in the MAG/Pinger type affection type way, but the way everyone just sort of pulls together and gets along. It's like televisual/fanfictional comfort food. Give me that same sort of happy warm feeling in my stomach anyway.

And then! Then! As if the breakfasting wasn't awesome enough, she goes and does the laundry. I love her. Honestly. I want to be her when I grow up. I bet she even sang quietly and out of tune to herself.

So, you'd think Mary Ann was just a normal girl living a normal life on an island with six people she doesn't really know. But then! THEN! The singularly most exciting thing ever happens to her. She meets her doppelganger. AND her body double! Although she's a little more grumpy, and a little more Russian. But still. The similarities are all there. Little button nose, big brown eyes, gingham dress, rag soaked in chloroform... No, hang on, that's just Agent 223!

EEEK! She's knocked Mary Ann out! I hope she's all right - onto Chapter Three!

*waves* Hello!

Russians. Spies. Russian spies. Gilligan. Agent 222. Well. I mean. You know how to tempt a person back into the wonderful world of fanfiction don't you? Five months - must be the shortest retirement in history!

Without further ado, I'm gonna unleash some bullet points on you! It's been a while!

. "Agent 222 raised his eyes sullenly." Aha! I'm in.

. "Who cares about France!" I tell you what, truer words have never been spoken. Just came back from there, it's more overrated than David Bowie.

. "You don't know your arias from your oboe!" HAAAAAAAAAA!

. "A beard does not make a philosopher" I LOVE old Russian sayings like that. They're truly the most sarcastic of all nations. My favourite is "There was never a saint with red hair."

. Why would he want his old face back - he looks like Gilligan! *frowns*

. Gilligan's Adam's apple. You're almost as obsessed as I am with stubble. I haven't written a Pinger fic involving stubble yet... *blinks*

. *GASP*! Mary Ann is a Russian spy! Oh, no - wait. It's Agent 223!

. Aww, Agent 222 wasn't immune to the charms of Mary Ann's coconut creme pie either! He is but a man! Whew, is he ever a man!

. Agent 223 demonstrates the natural Russian silver-tongued charm. "You are pathetic." Well - it worked on Agent 222.

. Why does the Commandant remind me of the Skipper? Maybe it's his meaty hands!

. I could almost hear the opening titles at the end of the Commandant's speech!

Brilliant setup, I'm drawn in, I'm prepped and ready to carry on. Can't wait for Chaptire Deux (that's French)!

Yours in Spying

Wow, they actually did do the laundry, but very much in GI style - the prof devising new formulas and the skip mixing the whites with the colours! I think he'd look fab in pink! :D

Glad to see all the ends tied up nicely - I was worried about the Russians, but not anymore! LOL! How weird is that to end up in the Little Dictator's country...222 will fit in perfectly! Loved how he coddled 223, but not to excess! I reckon they have a brilliant future ahead! :)

Happy that MA has no ill effects from her ordeal that she can't overcome, especially with a well-earthed Gilligan at her side. Nice to see their relationship taken a step further. In my mind, they're a natural pair.

I enjoyed this brilliant adventure so much, Teebs, and am that sorry to see it end. It was such a pleasure to read, and the clever way you portrayed the cast was always good for a laugh at the end of a difficult day. Cheers, mate, for posting this and sharing it with all of us - or as Boris would say, 'Spasibo'! :)
Cristy W-S 4/15/12 . chapter 22
Aw, I'm feeling all warm and fuzzy after reading this chapter. :)

Loved the snogfest in the jungle between 222 and 223! Now there's some kissing a Harlequin Romance novel would be proud of! :D He's really gone all heroic too, protecting her and comforting her as he does. They're sorta the spicy side of the MAG coin.

'I always have this problem,' 223 told the millionaire with a debonair grin.' LOL! *Adore* his sense of humour, but I think I said that already.

You're very adept at getting the characters of MA and Gilligan to to relate to and understand the spies on a deeper level, even going so far as to genuinely wish them well. I was very happy to see that...it's a quality I very much like in the professor as well! :)
Cristy W-S 4/15/12 . chapter 21
That muddled jail scene was classic! Almost any scene with Gilligan in is funny, but this was hysterical! Well done, Teebs!

I think 222 and 223 are adorable together, a bit of sugar and spice, but I really liked 222 here. Awesome sense of humour and a rather suave as well. You've given him another dimension that's very appealing and I find I'm actually in his corner cheering him on. :)
Cristy W-S 4/15/12 . chapter 20
Enjoyed the heart-to-heart between MA and Gill, and especially liked 'the kiss'! For some reason, it reminds me of a school romance - I expect because Gilligan is just so emotionally young, and of course, that's part of his charm. Can't really see him on the pull, but it's so touchingly sweet the way you had them interact in this scene. I like this ship :)

Now enter 222 stage right...can't wait to see what happens next. The mind boggles...!
Cristy W-S 4/15/12 . chapter 19
To be honest, I thought the skip was reacting much too harshly to 223 - I mean, she is a woman, after all, and this is the 1960's...but then I realised, hey, this chick could've killed MA and his little buddy, so yeah, I suppose his reaction is well within character. There are times on the programme when he does get very angry and indignant.

I do like that the prof is the calm one in the group, even when she's hurling Russian insults at them. I'll have a wander over to Babelfish later and work out what she's saying! :) And you even have old Roy crying in this instalment! Aww!

Poor Gill - the human kleenex! :)

And look, here comes a shining, water-logged knight fresh out of a torpedo tube to rescue his damsel in distress! I kinda hope he's sucessful. :)
Cristy W-S 4/15/12 . chapter 18
What a perfect ending to a wicked chase - done in by an apple! Result! :) MA's no off the peg hero, is she, and Gilligan just made me laugh all through this bit. 'Thanks, Skipper,' indeed!

LOL'd at Mr Howell as well, agreeing with the 'American capitalists' comment. He has some zingy one-liners not unlike Maggie Smith in 'Downton Abbey'!

And the Proff 'trying to sound soothing' - very scrummy :) :D

Off to the next...
chill13 4/2/12 . chapter 23
Mary Ann is smart, comming up with a way to make the place that all that happened less scary to her.

Ha! The Skipper WOULD object to wearing pink! Love Gilligan's reaction to The Professor asking him to smell his socks! Hilarious. That's not a request you hear every day. But that's the Professor for you, always trying to make everyone's life a little easier.

Ha! What a great ending! I never would have guessed that's where they landed! That's such an awesome twist. I love it!
JWood201 4/2/12 . chapter 23
It's the end of an era! I'm going to miss 222 and 223, but what a way to go, right?

BULLet points!

- I want a boy to wait for me outside my hut every morning.

- G Man is so wise sometimes. "The cave was never scary. The spy was scary." So true.

- Laundry Time with Proffy and Skippy! It sounds like an old fashioned comedy show. Pink boxers! Duh, Skippy, everyone knows you have to separate your whites and your colors! (I totally don't do that).

- "Made them shrink?" Whomp whomp.

- Proffy and his socks had me on the floor. Classic! Smell these! No thanks, Roy. He would totally spend that much time making his socks smell nice. Oy.

- Howell lunch! Special guest! Puffing out his chest! Skippy winking.

- Skippy wants some gossip! As do I. G Man better watch his back or Lovey will blow out the candles and leave them to their own devices again. Although after G Man kissed a girl IN HER BED she might actually get some action. What?

- Awww, 222 and 223! I love them, too! They're not nearly as tough as they act. I love how protective 222 is, and yet he's also not going to put up with any of her crap either. That's the way, man!

- Sharks! Real names! I still call them our other Russian names in my mind. :)

- "But I like yours. You are very beautiful, just like Mary Ann. Even now, with your hair like the nest of a bird." Hahahaha! That's equal parts adorable and hilarious.

- THE PICTURE! I remember when we were LOLing about that in email and you totally put it in! Classic!

- "Do not look so sad, Bosha," she teased. "At least you do not look like the Commandant!" Haha, aw the Commandant.

- Gunshots! What the hell?

- BIENVENIDO A ECUARICO! STOP IT! Hahahaha. YES.

- Poor Rodriguez will go nuts when he gets a load of those two. His people will think he's nuts and exile him again and the Russian will take over that shit. Classic!

- "Is craziest country on Earth!" That's their tourist slogan. :)

Love it! You've managed to make amazing well-rounded believable characters out of 222 and the Commandant and your original creation of 223. Thank you so much for the adventure and I'm sad to see it end. But I can't wait to see what you come up with next.

And you're welcome for the informal beta reading. You know how I love a sneak peak. :)
Maudlin Mush 4/1/12 . chapter 23
Excellent! Loved the ending! I'm glad that 222 and 223 are safe and able to go on. As are Gilligan and Mary Ann. thank you for the wonderful story!
