Victory for Garak, six months or no.

The best part of the first few seasons was always watching Dukat trounce Sisko at shifgrethor, it's nice to see Garak finally get his turn.

"I find it highly unlikely that I shall ever need to call upon your more colourful talents, Mr Garak" XD

Very nice. I love Garak's phrasing...it seems perfect for him.

Brilliant writing. Loved it. You have Garak down to the nth degree and I can tell that, above all the rest of DS9's characters, he is your favorite.

Mine, too. :0)

My only critique would be, I don't think that Garak would use so many contractions. Since the writer's strike, my family has invested in buying various 'retired' television series, including DS9. We're into season 3 currently and where Garak's voice is so fresh in my mind right now, (as an example) I found myself replacing certain contractions with within this sentence -

He stood up. 'Maybe if I 'had' managed to wipe out the Founders I 'would' agree with you, Captain. . .

Very minor, of course, since you have captured Garak's personality so vividly, not to mention Sisco's.

Well, with that said, I will be lingering here in this fandom for a while, taking a break from the one I usually frequent. Blame those acursed DVD's, of course. Certainly brought back fond memories of exploring the galaxy via the Star Trek 'Enterprise'. :0)

Be blessed,

Rene'

Wonderful! We think of Garak as the morally ambiguous character on the show, but I always found Sisko's morals to be the most, er, flexible.

Heh. Excellent Sisko and Garak characterization, IMHO.

Oh, superb! One of the things I liked most in DS9 was the tension between Sisko and Garak. The funny (?) truth is that on one occasion or another Sisko had to sacrifice his high morals, just to keep his people alive and win that cursed war. If we can speak of winning in this context, since there was no true victory on either side.

This story in its introspective nature is as good as Andrew Robinson's book "A Stitch in Time" entirely in Garak's point of view.

I say that because in this story Garak can only laugh at the banality and transparancy of federation values because he knows he's right for being "the bad guy."

In the book you get that same feeling coupled with the reality that Garak has feelings too and is actually left feeling used and discarded once sisko no longer has any use for him.

Garak is truly an infinitely complex character and very hard to write about.

Yet your unusual depiction of his emotions in this story seem pefectly believable.

Interesting... I actually haven't seen any Series 4 episodes in years (still waiting for BBC to repeat them so I can tape them). I actually thought this happened in Series 5, but either way it was true to the characters. It's always good to meet a fellow DS9 fan! :) Especially one who writes so well.

This is another good one. (Why have I never heard of you before - are you new to DS9 fanfic?)

The irony in this story stings. Lovely.

I don't really know the fandom, but this is a great piece of dialogue. Very powerful.
