Stories like this one are why I beta-read. It was a privilege to watch this story come together. Reading it now in its final form, I'm able to just enjoy the ride. I've said this before, but I'll say it here too-I love your version of Mearing. She's a real, three-dimensional character here and we can see how she became the director of a vital agency. This is the kind of mature individual that I can see Optimus falling for.

This has taken a turn for the fascinating that I had never anticipated. Not that I don't anticipate fascination from your stories, but this particular plot turn was not one I saw coming. I'm enjoying very much, and love the snark between Ratchet and Mearing.

Come to think of it, the way you write her character, she does remind me a lot of how I imagine Elita-1.
