I big heart this chapter! So much so. I wish I could give you a hug.
I like how attached Charlotte to Sam, all things considered. She's just the cutest little thing. And here comes Baby Braddock! Jules' doubts were totally understandable, and I think it'll be interesting to see how that plays out in the future. The way Sam talked to Jules' belly was adorable.
I love how Jules gave him this whole spiel about how they couldn't afford the baby, but had already bought a book on being a father that same day, like she had no intention of ever not having the baby. Also, I love Sam's ritual of placing his hand on Charlotte's back to make sure she's just sleeping and not, well, dead. I'm semi-looking forward to reading about baby clothes. I'm torn; I know I'm gonna be all "AAAwwwwww," but that's just so heart breaking in a way!
And, I have to say it: Common mis-interpretation of probability. The definition of Probability is that you have a certain percentage chance of an outcome EACH TIME something happens. The most common mistake of this, I've seen, is with condoms; the pack says they're 95% (or whatever) affective, and people (mostly bragging guys) think that means if you have sex 100 times, 5 times out of that you'll get pregnant. It actually means that every time you have sex, you have a 5% chance of getting pregnant. This is just a total pet-peeve of mine that I feel I must go on a rant about. Too many freak'n people, including (Jr.) college professors (apparently; my tutoring students' for one) and TEXT BOOKS (!, you can't make this crap up) get this definition wrong.
Wow, that was a whole ranting paragraph on something Sam thought in one sentence. And, now that I think about it, Sam probably WOULD think that's what it means. But still, rant I must.
Anyho, can't wait to see the conclusion of this story, although, I have to admit, I'm really looking forward to the next chapter of JW more. Mostly, you just rock as a writer and all your stuff's good. I can't complain either way. And, oh look, in the midst of my rant, I forgot Flashpoint is ending for all of 10 minutes (!).
You have to admit though, when you say "shit goes down," it's not usually puppy dogs and rainbows...
This is an amazing chapter in so many ways! I've been rewatching Season 1 and I couldn't help but think how far Sam's come over the course of the series and this chapter really illustrates his growth.
This is an amazing story. I absolutely love it. How you developed the characters and the plot... Everything. I can so totally see this happening! And that's one of the reasons why I love this story. I can't wait for the next update! (even though I'm sadly aware that when I started this story, your recent update was today).
Sexy Time after a long ass time. I laughed at the fact that Sam thought there might be dist on the condoms because they hadn't used them in so long.
And how freaking precious is Charlotte? I wanted to smack Sam upside his head for hurting her feelings, but then we got daddy-Charlotte time and he weaseled his way back into my good graces. When he pretty much said Charlotte was just as much his as any biological child of his Jules was carrying, I nearly swooned.
Jules' concern about the potential change in the family dynamic was just as understandable as Sam's reaction to her even thinking it was a possibility. Especially when they don't seem to communicate all that well about parenting issues until they come up...
And, um, universal illegitimacy for the sake of equality(story titles)? Say it ain't so with all this one step forward, two steps back marriage stuff!
And I know there was something else I wanted to touch on, but I forgot, so, if I remember, I'll just tweet in your ear(eye?) about it.
eeeheee! I love this... I love all of it. Charlotte meeting her 'da' at the door was adorable. Love her perspective of everything from the couch. Their...fight?... seems legit. I'd be worried too, but I'm thinking Jules doesn't have anything to worry about... I like the marriage & last name debate Sam has with himself... yeah... pretty sure I just love everything... Can't wait for familial shit to go down. and for oneshots. I wish I wrote better reviews... actually, while I'm wishing for stuff, I wish my time machine would work so I could skip ahead to the part where you post the next chapter.
Awesome chapter! To be honest, I was not surprised by Jules' reaction at all when she realized Charlotte was burning up. Even had Charlotte been his biological daughter, I think Jules would have done the same thing - it is that motherly instinct to want to hold and comfort your baby.
I liked how you started off the chapter lighthearted, it gave me something to go back and read to calm my racing heart as I got deeper into the chapter.
I'm glad Charlotte is okay and I can't wait to see your next hurdle for them to overcome.
AAAhhhh! A sick baby! That's even worse than a sick puppy! You sure know how to pull at our heart-strings.
I love the line "she baecame his. Eff Steve." Great. Sam is such a good adoptive baby-daddy. They need to get married to make it official.
Also, I love how Jules ran into the hopital with dripping hair and forgot her coat to the point of looking behind her to see if it landed on the floor. I could just clearly see a distraught mother doing that.
As for the second author's note, I knew this bliss couldn't last, especially with three more chapters. I'm gonna guess it has something to do with Jules going back to work.
