LIME B 9/15/12 . chapter 1Honestly? I can't pick out of the many adjectives now crowding in my head that would truly suffice as a praise for this. A phrase of it definitely being worth a successful one-shot or even the repeated squeals and flails resulting to the inability to form a coherent sentence is an understatement for it. Such compliments seem so small and lacking compared to the read you had me experience. (I'm still badly tempted to do all those above though) I don't even know where to start anymore. The characters, roles, their personalities and the world itself you drew out - there's just too many things that needs to be mentioned and gushed about over and over. In truth I didn't expect the swan thing at first, nor the curses and magic and whatnot. I had unfortunately missed the AU part in the description box at the start hence making me wonder if there were actually magic parts in the series I've only watched for a few times. But yes moving on. The start was comforting, it was admirable how you played out such a young Schneizel that already wore the head on and focused attitude. How detached yet still human in both feelings and mind he was on the parts where he dealt with the death of family members. It also seems just him so to prefer working in the sidelines and be wary about taking over the throne. All in all, you brought out his softer side without doing so overly and result it in being out of character. And Kanon was just, okay I really have to do it- DFJDGFDJGFH ADORABLLEEEEEEE. And the even more nod worthy side of this is that it wasn't shown in the cliche way as well. His shyness and loyalty was the definite swoon weapon, I swear. The wit and challenging attitude to correct his Majesty being the topping of the cake. Hence, for such a seldomly shown character you were able to craft and shape the little information given to something that would MOVE a reader. You also placed the events in the series into this story without having it rushed to one time scene after another. Another impressive feat was how the two main males here continue in being the center of attention without causing a bother to their audience to demand the appearance of the other characters. When you DID push out into the open two of the major people in the series themselves, no one or no part of the story had strayed from path. And last but not least, I REALLY love how the pair's relationship here somehow sways to being distant yet the most intimate you can ever imagine at the same time. There wasn't the Kiss the frog or the We need to make love in order to get the curse broken thing that's just unfortunately sprinkled in most fan made stories nowadays. The way Schneizel tried to balance work, his life and his promise in practically a, well, practical manner was admiring. And the part where he found the solution insulting him for being plain easy had me laughing. Also small praises for Lelouche's help with his Knight that no one can touch but him I send their way. Anyway, the humorous and cheery ending was truly the right choice to finishing a mild yet serious story. Kanon and his Majesty were still intact with their canon personalities and I won't lie- The last sentence of A Vow had me squealing in my head and grinning like a dunderhead. Honestly ending this here because you might find my babble glittered Review annoying- I very much enjoyed and love this. A fan made story I can positively say that won't be forgotten by readers who come across and I thank you with as much as I can for making and posting this. So! I hope you more luck for your future works and I badly wish and hope you make another for this pair soon. You just HAVE to appease this craving that intensified in tenfold now for these two! And that sudden pressure that jumped out of nowhere aside, thank you for the wonderful read Love, LIME B |
onpuente 7/11/12 . chapter 1I'm honestly surprised to be the first reviewer because I can't believe this story doesn't have any reviews yet. Not only with this one, your stories are so good that they should have way more reviews. I'll start from the beginning: I am in love with your AUs. They are so very well done: the fusion of the different universes feels natural and the characters' keep their personalities, insecurities and other attributes from CG, even when they sometimes have to adapt to the universe they are in. The relationships between the characters are not rushed and they feel authentic, the plots have a nice pacing and except for some typos here and there, there is nothing to complain about. To be honest, I kind of fangirl you because I enjoy your fics so much, so I have to contain myself to give a semi-coherent review instead of flailing all over the place. So, A Vow. There is not nearly enough Schneizel/Kanon fic, so 18K words of fic about them it's amazing. This is a great companion of Practice to Deceive And I have so much love for this story and the way in which you portray their relationship: the trust between them, how Kanon is so loyal and willing to stay as a swan as long as Schneizel needs him and how Schneizel doesn't want to disappoint Kanon. Schneizel's personality is tricky to write because we never saw that much about him in the anime, but I think you managed to find a way in which he clearly cares about the people around him (mourning for Lelouch, working hard to fulfill his promise to Kanon) while still being practical and keeping his priorities in mind. As I was reading, I couldn't imagine how Schneizel was going to break the curse since I didn't see him as the type to give Kanon the true-love kiss, declare his eternal love and fix everything -and you didn't take that route! Also, the small doses of Suzaku/Lelouch were very welcomed. Another aspect I liked is how their relationship never had that much physical contact (except for being close to each other by sleeping in the same bed), so the small moments when Schneizel reached out to hold Kanon's hand or touch his waist felt so intimate, in a way. And the playfulness of their interactions, especially the ones towards the end of the story makes it sweet in a non-sappy way. God, if it was up to me I'd just comment every detail of your stories, but I really need to stop or my reviews would be too long. Sooo, if you want to continue your habit of writing Schneizel/Kanon fic to apologize, please do so. You won't hear any complaints from my side, especially if they are as lovely as this one. I love your two Schneizel/Kanon fics and I'd adore to read more. And I'm repeating myself here and going into fangirl mode, but I really love your stories and you should have so many more reviews. This was a great fic! |
