Saw your A/N at the end. Can this please be a two-part, (or longer) fic. You captured the feelings of that generation in that universe so well, tackling the racial aspect without making it more, or less than what it had been then. You handled it very tactfully so that it didn't eclipse the romance, the homosexuality issue and the mutant issue. I also like how you added certain subtleties to Darwins mutation, to show them in an everyday manner like a disarming smile, the bed by the window. Well done. DO MORE. Yes it's a commanding suggestion. You're that good.
