Chris7221 3/3/12 . chapter 3Honestly, I don't know what to think of this story. The only thing I can say for certain right now is that it's weird.
We've got a group of pretty strange (and young) teenagers. They seem to get along fine, though. In most stories, I say that the characters adjust too well too quickly, but in this case, it doesn't seem so bad. Probably because at least Spes and Vincent are already runaways. Odd names, odd backgrounds, odd personalities, at least as far as I can tell.
Then there's the part where they end up in Mass Effect. Every self-insert relies on a ridiculous plot device for this to happen, and this story is no exception. Spes was watching a creepy ad... that wasn't really there? And then someone found a... Reaper claw? I'm sorry, what the hell just happened? Like I said, really weird. This part didn't really make a lot of sense, to be honest.
After that, it only gets stranger. Spes has scary visions, where they came from or what they mean I don't know. It turns out that every single one of them is superhuman- how that happened I don't know. I can't help but get the feeling that they are going to be hugely overpowered later, and become ridiculous Sue/Stus. They are already exhibiting traits.
Now that I'm done with the neutral and bad stuff, I guess I'll move on to the good stuff. The writing is good and easy to read, with chapters a nice length, and no glaring mistakes. The interactions between the characters are very well done. And it seems that all the visions and the reason why they ended up in Mass Effect is going to lead somewhere.
I'm also wondering what "slight Halo xover" means. Are we going to see elements of Halo creeping in? If it's just references to Halo, then it's not a crossover, and if there's a lot of Halo coming, then it's not slight. |
