Everything--the poetic language (that drunken dizzying Carnival in Rome!), the characterization, the wonderfully written relationship between Franz and Albert... it's all just stunning. And I'm so glad to see I'm not the only one who read the book and 'ships Franz and Albert! The only problem I see is that, as another reviewer mentioned, the last sentence is a fragment and seems sort of out of place. But overall?

Shinteetah 2005-03-07 ch 1,	abuseWonderful millieu! (did I spell that correctly?) You've done a great job with the atmosphere. The whole thing is a dreamy, dizzy carnival experience. (One note: "whom" referring to Albert should be "who," as he's the subject of that phrase and not the object...) I'm left a little surprised at the end -- Franz seems almost resentful of Albert during the story, but the ending implies either a deep friendship or (given your Albert/Franz tag) a sexual relationship. I might want a little more explanation of why Franz is admiring Albert and contrasting himself with him and then kissing his sleeping brow... I'm one of those old-fashioned types who believes guys can be close friends without also being gay, so I have my own ideas :-) but you should illuminate yours a little more.

I swear, Dumas is probably rolling over in his grave. Aside from the slash melodrama, this is a fantastic story. your language is beautiful and descriptive. so many fan fics are just "blah blah blah, life goes on" but this little morsel really lives. i would love to read another of your stories ok, you have every right to call me a flamer or an anti-gay. that's your opinion. i'm just giving mine.
