A magnificent and well-planned story! Scrumptious and very descriptive. Great job!

So this story was recomended to me by another user on this site. I am so glad I read it. It was a wonderful story. I stayed up way to late reading this. Last night I did not go to bed until 3am. That tells you how much I wanted to read this story. I am going to read the sequel of this now! Thanks for such a great story!

I'm absolutely loving reading this so far! But no, I don't want Draco to break up with Harry! I'm interested to see how this will all turn out...on to the next chapter!

I've finished reading last night and I still have my chess set on my desk - of course I've played it! I love stories based on chess but I know only a few ff in which every single move is known so I can actually play it. I'm glad this is one of them. It seems more... tangible this way. Like I can take a part in the story.

When I started to read 'Checkmate' I thought it's going to be one of this really fluffy fics with a little bit of angst to make it more stirring. I love this pairing and if their relationship was sweet and with well-written emotions, I had nothing to complain about, though I'd never expect this story to be reliable: how could I, with Draco-in-love-with-Harry-since-the-first-meeting and Harry-falling-in-love-in-one-day? And then, sometime while reading, I caught myself believing more and more - in your characters and in this story. And it began to show that it has more plot than it seemed to have and it's more bittersweet than just sweet. I think this is what I liked here: everything between Harry and Draco was somehow even more touching with a knowledge of temporality of. Well, I was sure it's going to end good but it's more than o.k. that we had to wait a little for the happy end.

And this is why 14 is my favourite chapter: it's right after Draco learnt about his father's spell and Pansy started to cause trouble... the whole situation was not very good and I was rather angry with you for making Draco break up with Harry, and I was afraid of what it may cause. So the way Draco did it, with all the hints, surprised me totally. This was the moment to see how deeply they understand each other and how they trust each other. I loved it even more than scenes in Draco's room. How does it come that we can appreciate good things more when they are between bads?

As to the end... Draco's death was really unneeded. Lucius was already captured, wasn't he? So it seemed a bit forced. But the way Harry has healed Draco and their arguing afterwards made it up for me. Though, I think the ending itself was a bit boring to me. I don't like endings of this kind of stories at all: this is when characters have to explain everything to everyone and I just want some peace, both for the characters and for myself.

I was also a bit dissapointed with all this Magebond fuss: I know it should be explained somehow but... I just like the idea of their auras joining. I don't have to name this bond - it seems less special this way. More like "hey, we have another gift!" than "see, how we fit to each other?". And I definetly prefer the second one.

O.k., I'm starting to grumble. All I wanted to say was that I loved it. For plot, for Harry, for Draco, for his worries, for the warmth of this story... and for chess. Thank you - I had two great days reading it.

this story is so lovely i can't describe it properly. I think one part though which i really enjoyed, was how magic truly became magical in this story. i feel like magic is often made to seem very commonplace in this fandom but in this story it was fantastic. when harry turned the snowball into butterflies it was described in a way that really showed how wondrous and beautiful it was. magic was more than a tool here and im just very impressed. amazing job(:

You should write more long stories, don't have to be this long (I have to admit, the chapters were just way too long, not in a bad way tho) but still, something more than just 1 shots

BTW, the idea of having nobby was just so cute and creative, have to admit I'm really amazed by all these ideas

This fic is really amazing. I loved the descriptions especially of their eyes. Your writing is fantastic, and I was freaking out about Draco's secret plan. I think you wrapped it up nicely! It's awesome, and I love it.

Ok, to start this off, wonderful story! This had me captivated until the very end, so much so that I am almost late for my bus to work right now, to write this. XD I'm curious, was all the information about the medical magic, the magebonding and the dance that Draco and Harry shared, was that all researched from somewhere, or your own ideas? Whatever they were, it was brilliant. Ok, I really have to go now, but I loved this story, and you are a fantastic writer. The chess game idea was inspired, and I am defiantly checking out your profile when I have time. Thanks for a wonderful fanfiction, they are so rare to find. Defiantly one of my most favourite.

I have to be honest and say, this is the most well written piece of fan fiction I have ever read in my life. And I appreciate it even more so since you kept it at a T rating. I used to feel like i would never find a story so well written as a T rating since a great deal that I end up finding has overused plots and a certain fangirl feeling to it, that while i may end up kind of liking the story in the end, I can not fully feel an enjoyment from reading it. So I thank you so much for writing this. And while it only takes the #2 spot on my all time favorite list, it does have the #1 spot for most well written. I think one of my favorite things was the well balanced characters. I felt like every character had their good characters traits, but they also had the negative ones, too. So it never felt that one character was too perfect, or too dramatic for that matter. The environment and emotions your words was also astounding. It felt so detailed, and I could feel the emotion just leap off the screen. Draco's anguish over his suicide plan, the deep emotional and physical bond between Harry and Draco, and I felt pure fear during Draco's Death Eater initiation. The scenery was so well detailed and I could picture it so well in my mind. I feel that this story is a great piece of artwork, and once again, I thank you so very much for writing this.
