I think Mary's musings in this are perfectly in tune with that line at the end of the book that says it took her a long time to find someone of Edmund's worth among her many admirers.

Brilliantly written, i only wish there was more :). the language was well suited to the time and i think you captured Mary's persona perfectly.

I really enjoyed this fic - Mary Crawford's thoughts as you've written them are in perfectly in accord with her character as we see it in the book.

A few lines I really liked for their insight :

"There is nothing more terrible than to love and yet know you yourself are the reason the love must be given up."

"They exposed the folly we could not stop clinging to. And neither of us were the better for having met them."
