I adored this, I truly did. The pace was gentle and seamless.

I'm glad Ennis had managed to find himself a partner. The film left you with the notion that his heart had stopped forever. I'm glad that wasn't the case.

Bobby being the spitting image of his dad in looks, gait, personality (but not sexuality) must have been shock to the system for Ennis. I think he handled it well.

I loved the way you interwove bits of canon into your story:

"he'd smile and talk a lot." Mirroring Jack's first description of his baby son.
"I walked to the side a the house and puked my fukin' guts out." So did Ennis, when he first walked away from Jack.
"Got fourteen hours a drivin a head of me." Jack bitched but he never balked at undertaking these trips.

I think that Bobby had already worked out the nature of Ennis' relationship to his dad before he arrived. I think that's why he talked soooooo much, to put Ennis at ease before the returned his "love letters."

This was a very clever, very thoughtful and touching tale.
