How very appropriate for Snape's wand to be made of wood that symbolizes deception. I like the last line.

I haven't read anything on snape's origins before now. What a delightful one shot. :)

I won't pretend that my version of AU snape is inherently better than anyone else's, but I really enjoy running into fictions that seem in line with my own preferences.

It's also kind of bitter sweet to see Snape as a child. I very much enjoyed it.

Very nice ficlet - I have really enjoyed it. And if I may tell - that means something, I don't like (after HBP) when people have the parenting of Severus wrong. I guess you could also very easily change at least the mum's name and the person accompaning him could be a wizzarding uncle but never mind me - really a nice piece. (-: Added it to C2 Severus Snape where I am staff. (-:

I've been putting this one off until I could consume PtQ appropriately - and I'm glad I did. The subtlety here is beautiful, chilling, fascinating. A rich portrait of the nine year old Severus, particularly in Ollivander's retrospective at the end. And the wand of choice ... so fitting in so many different ways. Beautifully done. Brilliant vignette.

What a beginning to a story- I feel sorry for Severus already. You have started the beginning of the numerous other stories that begin in the middle of Snape's life and which leave the reader curious about how he got to be as he is, eg so intractable and furious about everything in his life. The characterisation of the child seems to be just how I had thought that the child would be and brings him alive. Don't stop now!
