On re-reading I had a thought. Canonically, no new slayer was called when Buffy died in The Gift. Buffy has already been replaced by Faith. So for Traver to assume that because a new slayer wasn't called that Buffy was alive...is a sign of his irrationality in this story. It all hangs together!

Two new chapters while I was away. I love that they want to make love, but don't because they aren't in love with each other (yet!). Minor quibble, not sure that I buy Buffy hiding in the bathroom for so long. Of course the whole story is premised on the notion that she accepts that this is a threat that she has to hide from, otherwise sniper bullet.

This chapter was adorable. They don't want to sleep together because they want to sleep together (emphasis on the sleep). They both feel uncomfortable with how comfortable they have become. Equal playing field for them, instead of Buffy upstairs and Spike in the basement.

I don't know how you keep cranking out such enjoyable stories, but as long as you do, I will keep reading. I also want to thank you for the over 1.8 million spuffy words you have given us since 4-19-11 when your first spuffy story appeared here. Even though I have you on alert, still one of the first things I do when I get a break each day is check for updates. I've read some of your stories three times already!

The opening Spuffy scene was beautiful, and I just love the way you wrote the love scenes in the past few chapters. I actually had to reread chapter 12 this morning before moving on to this one.

Thank you for the incredibly sexy image of Spike, hair ruffled from sex, wearing only a pair of jeans, gathering weapons and fighting the demon!

Loved this line as it's such a perfect way to describe the feeling between them: "Bodies and minds were in sharp disagreement about this, with emotions doing a shitty job of refereeing."

Interesting that Spike's emotions are a weakness, I wouldn't have thought he'd hesitate in killing Mephistopheles. I enjoyed the banter between them before they fought, and the fact that they each recognize they are fighting for a woman. Great scene between Meph and Jezza, I wasn't expecting that and actually felt really sad that Meph died.

So, Mephistopheles is protecting Spike and Buffy by telling Travers to go south? I get the feeling that perhaps Meph isn't really dead and we'll see him and Jezza together with Spike and Buffy at some point?

I'm so glad that Spike and Buffyare both unsure about what happened and surprised by how far it went. I wouldn't have liked if one of them suddenly acknowledged strong feelings for the other.

Loved the bickering between Spike and Buffy in the car (so happy that they haven't lost that after what happened!) and his conversation with Giles, how he almost felt bad about having to kill Mephistopheles and the fact that he and Giles actually joked a bit!

There were quite a few funny "Spikeisms" in this chapter:

-his reference to the traffic cones as "some innocent traffic equipment."
-his tirade about the "Ruddy twitchy deer... they look harmless you know . . ."
- the fact that he didn't know if you shouldn't leave humans or dogs in the car all night.

It's obvious that Buffy is trying really hard to be grateful for what Spike is doing. I was surprised she didn't complain more about the cabin, the brown water, the shortage of bedrooms, and the fact that Spike stole a dictionary from the library. One of the reasons why I really love this story and the Uncontrollable series (haven't yet had a chance to read your other stories) is because you're not afraid to take as long as you need to bring Spuffy together. I love how they are each resisting this, not fully realizing what is even happening between them. Uncontrollable was one of the most beautiful coming together stories of Spuffy I've read, and this one is starting to fall into that category as well.

I had the biggest smile on my face when they sat down to watch the Spanish movie together!

There's even more sexual tension between them than there was before! Love it!

I love their playful interaction, it was adorable how they got excited about the tv show and that Spike had kept a copy of the dictionary. So glad to see that they are starting to like and respect each other rather then just feeling lust and how Spike said he wasn't ready rather then just having sex. It is sooo delicious that they are stuck in a one bedroom cabin with only one bed and no one else around for miles, I wonder how long it will take before they will not be able to fight their feelings and give in to what they both want.

OH i LOVED this chapter! there so cute all awkward but still wanting the other. and actually starting to develop some feeling for the other. cannot wait for the next chapter! please update soon so i dont have to suffer without it! haha

I'm so happy Spike killed that Meph dude so Buffy wouldn't get found but I feel bad for him and his Jezza. I do hope Jezza takes her voodoo revenge out on Travers and not Spike. Hopefully Spike and Buffy seemed to get some of their comfort back. Hope they continue to move forward and not backward. I liked how Spike realized Dru never seemed to thank him for anything. I'm also glad that Buffy recognizes his efforts in protecting and taking care of her.

I believe they will start to like the place soon, -I already like it- with all the wooden furniture, the trees, the wildlife. They themselves are wild creatures in the inside, so why not blend in? Why not feel at home, when you have this amazing person, your friend with benefits, next to you?

Oh my gosh, I actually ended up feeling a bit sorry for the voodoo vampire guy. I'm sure I'll get over it. Hope his woman seeks revenge on Traverse only, and leaves Spike and Buffy alone. They have enough to deal with.

I thouht this paragraph was hilarious:
" Living room. Wood, wood, and more wood, big, huge ugly blue couch and rocking chairs. Big surprise, also wooden. A television and a stack of magazines and paperbacks on the shelf under it. A fireplace. That's nice. Romantic. Crackling fire, cuddled up on the couch and- sparks flying out. Whole house is wooden. Guy I was cuddling with would be flammable. Spike is the co-cuddler in this scenario. This is just a bad, bad thought. Let's move on."

This is such a great story. I love that Buffy and Spike are working slowly towards a relationship but it doesn't feel too drawn out. Thanks for sharing.
